Merrick waved his hand, sighing. “It has nothing to do with you. I failed to guide him when he was young. At that time, I had just taken over Philips Corp and spent every day busy. I thought that simply providing you all with a good enough life would suffice, but I neglected your true intellectual and moral education. That’s why his path became increasingly twisted, leading him to where he is today.”
Lilian sat beside Merrick and comforted him, “Grandfather, everything is in the past. Please don’t dwell on it anymore. Besides, your health isn’t suited for excessive worry. You promised me you would exercise and get better quickly.”
“Right,” Merrick said with a smile. “I won’t think about it anymore. My main focus now is getting healthy, and then waiting for our Lilian to get married and have children, so I can stand up for her.”
Linette smiled. “That’s right, Lilian is part of the Philips family now. Oh, speaking of which, I almost forgot something important!” She then hurried toward the bedroom.
A moment later, she returned with a brocade box and approached Lilian. She smiled warmly. “Our last meeting was too rushed, and I didn’t get a chance to prepare a welcome gift for you. So, your aunt specially prepared this for you now. See if you like it.” She placed the brocade box directly into Lilian’s hands.
Lilian looked at the box in her hands, feeling slightly embarrassed. “You really didn’t need to.”
Houis smiled and said, “The welcome gift must be accepted. This is your aunt’s small token of affection. After all, you’ve grown up without us knowing, but now that we do, this gift must be given.”
Merrick also smiled. “Yes, etiquette must be followed. I’ll get a new one ready for you, too.”
Lilian looked puzzled. “Didn’t you already give me a welcome gift last time?”
Merrick laughed. “It’s different now. You are my biological granddaughter, so I definitely need to prepare a new one for you.”
Lilian looked at Merrick’s loving smile, affectionately linking her arm through his. “I feel very happy right now, having Grandfather, my uncle, aunt, cousin, and Master. If Mom knew, she could finally rest assured.”
