Cary turned his sharp gaze on Sebastian. “What, are you really going to side with your discarded ex–fiancée and throw away the relationship between our families? There is nothing left between you two. Don’t be a fool and trade the world for a speck of dust. You’d better think long and hard before you interfere. Don’t let a woman make you do something you’ll live to regret.” He turned to a nearby waiter and snapped, “This girl has no business being at an Austin family function. Get her out of here.”

The waiter looked between them, visibly sweating. He was caught in an impossible position. It was blindingly obvious that Sebastian and Eric were protecting her, and he wasn’t about to sign his own death warrant by trying to force her out.

The rest of the guests leaned in, savoring the drama.

When the waiter didn’t move, Cary exploded. “Are you deaf? Or are you looking to get fired?”

Lilian let out a sharp, mocking laugh. “Cary, drop the act. It’s nauseating. Do you actually know how to do anything besides hide behind your family name and bully people?
