Watching Sebastian stand there looking completely defeated, Eric couldn’t help but burst out laughing. It was rare to see a man who was usually so decisive and ruthless look so utterly helpless.

He gave Sebastian a sympathetic, if slightly mocking pat on the shoulder. “Good luck, man. I’ve never seen Lilian this pissed off before. You’ve really stepped in it this time.”

Turning to Uriel, he added, “I’ll take my leave now.” With that, he hurried out to catch up with Lilian.

Uriel looked at her son’s crestfallen expression and smiled gently. “Don’t worry too much. That girl is just hurt because you kept her in the dark. Once she’s had time to cool down, she’ll come around.”

Sebastian’s dark eyes were clouded with exhaustion. “Did I really get it so wrong?”

“If you’ve chosen her to be your wife, the very least you owe her is honesty,” Uriel said. “It’s clear she trusts you deeply. But if you keep hiding things every time trouble arises, that trust will slowly erode. And while I’m still getting to know her, tonight proved one thing: she isn’t the type of woman who wants to hide behind a man. She wants to stand beside you, through the good and the bad. I think you know that better than anyone.”

“I do,” Sebastian said, his voice laced with bitterness. “She was never meant to be a songbird kept in a cage; she’s an eagle meant to soar. Yet I keep trying to clip her wings, thinking I’m protecting her by keeping her behind my shield. I never realized my protection was actually causing her so much pain.”

Uriel looked at him pointedly. “Have you ever considered that if you actually succeeded in changing her, she wouldn’t be the girl you fell in love with anymore? The strongest bonds are forged in the fire of shared struggle. Those are the moments that become your most cherished memories. If you insist on sheltering her completely, what happens if the day comes when you can’t protect her? This kindness of yours would become her greatest nightmare because you would have turned her into someone helpless.”

Sebastian took a long, steady breath. “I see it now. Being the head of the Austin family isn’t a role that guarantees a peaceful life. It’s a path covered in thorns and constant danger. Since I’ve chosen Lilian, I should be helping her grow alongside me instead of selfishly trying to hide her away. She has every right to be angry.”

Uriel patted his shoulder and smiled. “That’s the right way to look at it. A marriage is about finding that one person to sail through the storm with. It’s only after you’ve fought through the thorns together that you become each other’s forever. So, stop moping and go fix things with her. I’m very fond of this daughter–in–law of mine, and I think your grandfather will be just as thrilled to meet her.”
