Lilian had no idea that because of a single plot of land, Skyreach Group was about to face a massive crisis; or that her carefully guarded identity had already been compromised.
Early morning at the Philips estate.
Eric, dressed in loungewear, sat at the dining table flipping through the newspaper. A steaming cup of coffee sat before him. The headlines were dominated by Cary’s removal from power. There were also mentions of the head of the Austin family’s mysterious fiancée, though it was clear the press had been warned; not a single photo had been leaked.
Beside him, Lou glanced toward the stairs. “Sir, are you sure I shouldn’t call Ms. Lilian down for breakfast?”
“No need,” Eric replied, turning a page. His voice was calm and amused. “She doesn’t have time for breakfast right now. She’s probably in the middle of a staring contest with her fiancé.”
Lou offered a warm smile. “You mean that gentleman is…”
“Who else could it be?” Eric chuckled. “It was quiet last night, which means Lilian was already out cold. That means the real battle was bound to break out this morning. I’m just curious to see who caves first.”
Lou hesitated. “Is it really appropriate for Mr. Sebastian to be in her room? If the Master finds out, he’ll be furious. And what if they start arguing? I’m worried Ms. Lilian might come out on the losing end.”
Eric laughed heartily. “Lou, relax. They’re engaged; Grandpa knows the deal. Besides, with the way Sebastian dotes on her, he’d never lay a finger on her. He’s the type to take every hit and every insult without pushing back. You have nothing to worry about.”
Lou’s expression finally softened. “Well, if you say so. I’ll tell the kitchen to keep the breakfast warm.” He turned and headed toward the back of the house.
Jpstairs, in one of the bedrooms.
The room was silent. Sunlight filtered through the floor–to–ceiling windows, washing the corners of the room in a soft, golden hue.
On the bed, Sebastian’s dark eyes were filled with tenderness as he watched the girl sleeping in the crook of his arm. He looked as f he wanted to freeze this moment in time forever.
Lilian slowly blinked her eyes open. Seeing the handsome face hovering so close to hers, she mumbled, “Sebastian, you jerk… if you dare haunt my dreams one more time, I’m going to kill you.” With that, she squeezed her eyes shut again.
Sebastian couldn’t help but let out a low, melodic laugh. He hadn’t expected her to be quite this adorable when half–asleep,
Hearing the deep vibration of his laughter, Lilian’s eyes snapped open. When she realized the face in front of her wasn’t a dream, her sleepiness vanished instantly. She shoved him away and bolted upright. “Sebastian! What the hell are you doing here?”
“Where else would I be?” Sebastian said, his voice dropping into a dangerously charming tone. “You’re my fiancée. Isn’t it perfectly normal for a couple to be together? Do you have a problem with that?” He reached out and playfully pinched her nose.
Lilian swatted his hand away, her face flushing with annoyance. “Don’t you try to charm your way out of this! You know exactly what I mean. I told you I didn’t want to see you until I decided on your punishment. You broke your word! And how did you even get into my room?”
