Chapter 118 Jake was knocked out

Finished

Jonna’s eyes narrowed instantly. Her instincts screamed that something was wrong, but the threat to Jake was enough to make them move. “Julian, go! I’m right behind you!”

Julian didn’t hesitate. With his baseball bat gripped tightly in one hand, he sprinted alongside the woman, rounding the corner into the dim, shadow-drenched alleyway.

The moment they cleared the corner, the woman suddenly dove to the ground, rolling out of the way.

From the darkness of the open garage door, the two heavy-set men lunged forward. One swung a massive iron pipe directly at Julian’s head, while the other brandished a long hunting knife, a sadistic grin plastered across his face.

But Julian was faster.

As the iron pipe sliced through the air, blue electrical currents exploded across Julian’s skin, crackling with a deafening pop. He didn’t even use the bat. He ducked under the swing, his left hand flashing forward like strike of lightning. He drove his palm squarely into the first attacker’s chest.

A blinding surge of high-voltage electricity erupted from Julian’s hand. The man’s body instantly went rigid his eyes rolling back as thousands of volts tore through his heart. The iron pipe clattered to the ground, and the man collapsed in a smoking, lifeless heap.

The second man froze, his cruel grin morphing into pure horror as he watched his partner die in an instant. He turned to flee, but Julian was already moving. Channeling the electrical energy into his legs, Julian closed the distance in a flash. He swung his baseball bat with brutal force, but this time, the metal barrel was surging with white-hot currents.

The electrified bat connected violently with the side of the man’s neck. The shock paralyzed his nervous system instantly, killing him before his body hit the pavement.

Seeing both men drop, the woman shrieked in terror. She scrambled backward on her hands and knees, reaching desperately for the hunting knife the second man had dropped. Before her fingers could touch the handle, Julian stepped into her path. His eyes glowed with a faint, dangerous blue light. He raised his hand, pointing a single finger at her forehead, and let loose a sharp, concentrated bolt of lightning. The arc pierced through her skull, silencing her scream permanently as she slumped against the rusted barrel.

“Jake!” Joanna’s voice cut through the smell of ozone and burnt air.

While Julian had neutralized the threat, Joanna had bypassed the trap entirely. Recognizing the ambush the second the woman dove, Joanna used her teleportation ability. In a flash of light, she blinked directly into the dark auto shop garage, tracking the scent of copper and old grease.

She found Jake slumped against a stack of old tires, his head bleeding from the blow. Joanna rushed to his side, dropping to her knees. Panic flared in her chest, but as she pressed two fingers to his neck, she calmed slightly. His breathing was still strong and steady. Looking closer at the wound, she sighed with relief; he hadn’t suffered a fatal blow. He was only knocked out.

Frantically pulling a medical kit out of her storage space, she began to tend to him. Behind her, Julian walked calmly into the garage, his hands still sparking faintly, his face grim as he looked for any others nearby.

After a few minutes, Jake groaned, his eyelids fluttering as he started waking up. Still groggy, he winced and reached up to touch the tender lump on the back of his head.

Joanna gently caught his hand, keeping him still. “Don’t move too fast,” she said softly, her voice full of authority. “It’s best if you rest for a few hours. I’m pulling you into my storage space so you can recover.”

Jake’s eyes closed in embarrassment. “Joanna… I’m sorry,” he muttered, his voice thick with sleep and pain. “I fell for a cheap trick. I should have known better.”

“Hey, stop that,” Joanna interrupted gently, squeezing his shoulder. “She used a kid as bait. You’re protective Jake. It’s who you are. Now, just relax and drink spring water to heal yourself in there. I will check on you once we reach the shipping ports.”

Jake gave a weak, appreciative nod. Joanna focused her mind, activating her ability. In a brief shimmer of light, Jake vanished from the dingy auto shop floor. He reappeared instantly inside the luxurious villa inside the living room, safely tucked away with a bottle of fresh spring water beside him.

Sighing with relief, Joanna stood up and stretched her aching muscles. She walked out of the dark garage and into the alley, where the smell of ozone still hung heavy in the air. She found Julian going through the attackers’ bags, casually tossing aside useless junk and stacking anything of value on a rusted metal table.

Julian paused his searching, looking up as Joanna approached. “Is he alright?”

“He’s stable,” Joanna answered, letting out a breath. “Just was knocked out. He’s resting in the villa now.”

She watched Julian nod, then go back to work packing a few crates of canned goods he found.

Turning to the garage, Joanna surveyed the space. Seeing all the tools and spare tires left behind, she smiled. With a simple flick of her wrist, she stored everything securely into her pocket dimension.
