Jae chuckled and filled him in, explaining how her upgraded level 13 space allowed her to shift coordinates across the port.

Barely five minutes later, a soft shimmer in the air signaled her return. Joanna appeared right before them, completely unbothered and smiling brightly. “Fifty vehicles in total,” she announced triumphantly. “And the keys are already inside the ignitions. We are officially fully loaded.”

“Let’s go home, boys,” Joanna said, looking out at the foggy horizon. “We should get back by first light.”

Jake stepped forward, nodding toward the motorcycle she was still holding. “I can drive the truck back if you want, so you can rest.”

Joanna grinned, a mischievous glint in her eyes. “Check this out.”

With a swift wave of her hand, a massive shadow materialized on the concrete before them, accompanied by the heavy, metallic thud of a truly monstrous machine. It was one of the newly acquired modified vehicles Allen had located on the ship, and it was the absolute pinnacle of zombie apocalypse survival engineering.

The vehicle was built on a heavily reinforced military-grade chassis, wrapped in lightweight but impenetrable matte-black composite armor plating that deflected blunt impacts and corrosive fluids alike. Up front, a massive, hydraulic-powered cowcatcher steel plow was welded to the frame, designed to sweep entire hordes of the infected out of the path without losing momentum. The windows were replaced with reinforced ballistic glass, protected by heavy-duty steel mesh grilles, and the entire undercarriage was sealed to prevent any grasping hands from catching on the mechanical components.

For defense, the roof boasted a 360-degree mechanized turret ring, completely automated to sync with a driver’s targeting heads-up display. Flanking the sides of the vehicle were heavy-duty, reinforced run-flat tires with automatic inflation systems, surrounded by custom-molded steel wheel wells that featured retractable, diamond-tipped shredding spikes to keep anything from crowding the sides. High-intensity LED light bars were mounted across the roof and bumper, capable of cutting through the thickest coastal fog or blinding aggressive scavengers in the dead of night. Despite its tank-like exterior, the engine purred with a modified, whisper-quiet electric hybrid drive, ensuring they could move at terrifying speeds without drawing unwanted attention.

Jake’s jaw dropped as he looked at the beast of a machine. “Okay,” he muttered, a massive smile breaking across his face. “I am definitely driving this instead.”

“I’m naming it “The Beast,” Joanna said, slapping the reinforced side panel of the matte-black armor plating.

The name instantly made everyone excited. Jake let out a low whistle, Julian grinned, and even Kailee looked eager to see what the machine could do. They all piled in, with Jake happily taking the wheel, Joanna in the passenger seat, and Julian, Caleb, and Kailee settling into the spacious, tactical interior.

Jake shifted into gear, and The Beast roared to life before smoothly transitioning into its whisper-quiet hybrid electric drive. As they tore out of the shipping port, the vehicle proved to be an absolute monster on the road. The ride was impossibly smooth, absorbing the rough, cracked asphalt of the ruined coastal highway as if it were a freshly paved racetrack.

Whenever abandoned sedans or jackknifed semi-trucks blocked their path, Jake didn’t even slow down. The massive hydraulic steel plow up front simply swept the wreckage aside, tossing multi-ton cars like plastic

toys without the passengers inside feeling so much as a bump. Stray groups of the infected that wandered out of the thick fog were utterly obliterated. The Beast mowed through small hordes with terrifying speed, diamond-tipped wheel spikes shredding anything that got too close to the flanks, keeping the vehicle completely unburdened and maintaining a blazing pace.

Inside the cabin, the group watched the carnage unfold on the high-tech interior monitors in absolute comfort. The high-intensity LED light bars sliced right through the lingering mist, illuminating a clear safe path through the wasteland.

Just before sunrise, the first faint orange rays of dawn began to crack through the dark skyline. The Beast pulled up to the familiar gates of the apartment complex, completely unscathed, heavily loaded with an entire warehouse of supplies, and carrying two incredibly powerful new allies.

When they pulled up to the apartment gates, Joanna reached into her jacket and pulled out a heavy satchel She had been quietly focusing during the ride back, and the bag was completely filled with the glowing zombie cores she had gathered right off the road. She handed it over to Caleb.

“Let’s switch this for those gemstones.” she said, giving him a knowing look. “After my upgrade, I can pull anything into my space within two thousand feet of me. These are just the ones Jake ran over on our way back. Split it between all of you.”

Caleb took the bag, a complicated look settling into his eyes as he looked down at the glittering harvest of power. He gripped the leather tightly and looked up at her, his usual mysterious demeanor cracking to reveal something far more vulnerable. He slowly passed her the satchel.

“Thanks, Joanna, for accepting us,” he said softly, his voice full of genuine gratitude. “These cores will help Kailee out for sure. They’ll give her exactly what she needs to master her air manipulation.”

He paused, staring at the bag for a long moment before looking back into Joanna’s eyes. “But… my ability is not like a superpower, so the cores won’t help me at all. In fact, I am one of the people who never truly awakened. My dreams are something I had long before the apocalypse ever started.”
