Chapter 126 You’re Pregnant?

Kallee, getting emotional as well, sniffled a little and wiped her nose with the back of her hand. Her fierce, battle-hardened composure completely dropped, revealing the protective friend underneath.
“Caleb and I have been best friends forever,” she said, her voice cracking slightly as she looked over at him. “There is nothing we wouldn’t do for each other. I always knew I couldn’t keep him safe alone. My air blasts can wipe out crowds, but in this world, one mistake is all it takes. I can’t be everywhere at once.”
She looked at Joanna, her eyes shining with a mixture of relief and newfound respect. “When he told me about his dreams and about you, I was skeptical. But seeing what you can do… seeing how you care for your people… I know he made the right call bringing us here.”
Caleb placed a comforting hand on Kailee’s shoulder, a gentle smile returning to his face. The vulnerability shared inside the armored cabin of The Beast cemented something shiftless in the air. They were no longer just two factions negotiating a transactional truce in a dark break room. They were becoming a team.
Jake and Julian exchanged a quiet glance from the front seats. They knew exactly what it felt like to look for a safe haven in the collapse of civilization, and they knew Joanna’s camp was the closest thing to a real future left alive.
All five of them climbed in through the door of the bottom patio, stepping out of the cool dawn air and into the warm, inviting buzz of the apartment complex. Julian had already updated the team via the comms while they were driving, so everyone was already awake, downstairs, and happily enjoying Danielle’s fresh cooking.
Joanna looked around the room, immediately noticing Willow and her grandmother sitting by the table, looking incredibly relaxed as they chatted with Uncle Nate. The heavy, survival-driven tension that usually filled the morning air was completely absent, replaced by a genuine sense of home.
Jolie, super exuberant as always, bounded forward with a wide smile lighting up her face. “Hey guys! You must be Caleb and Kailee! Welcome to the crew!”
Everyone in the room waved warmly, and Jake stepped up to introduce the newcomers and the rest of the residents to each other. As the group shuffled in and settled down with plates of food, Joanna started catching up on the incredible news that had unfolded while they were out at the port.
RJ had officially finished awakening her telepathy ability. Right alongside her, Mrs. Klein had successfully awakened a water ability. While both of their new powers were still relatively weak and needed training, it was a massive win for the camp’s utility.
Then, Jake turned to the group with a proud grin and shared his own massive milestone: he had officially awakened a metal-type ability, perfectly matching his role as their driver and frontline defender. Hearing the news, his eleven-year-old sister, Raven, let out a joyful shout and ran across the room, throwing her arms around her brother in a tight, celebratory hug.
Jolie smiled and interrupted everyone, waving her hands to get the room’s attention. “Now that Joanna is back. I can finally share the news!”
Ryan looked over from his plate, his eyes widening as he exclaimed, “You’re pregnant?”
Everyone froze. The entire room went dead silent, forks hovering halfway to people’s mouths as all eyes snapped directly to Jolie.

Chapter 126 You’re Pregnant?

Jolie’s exuberant expression vanished, instantly replaced by sheer irritation. “Pregnant?!” she shrieked, her
flushing bright red. “I don’t even have a boyfriend! That’s slander, Ryan!”
She crossed her arms and glared at him, her cheeks expanding with rage until she looked exactly like a puffed-up hamster.
Ryan’s face burned with instant regret. He glanced awkwardly between Jolie and Allen, realized how wildly he had misread the situation, and muttered a hasty, deeply embarrassed apology. “Sorry, sorry! My bad, I completely guessed wrong. Please continue!”
Allen immediately blushed, rubbing the back of his neck as everyone laughed a little awkwardly to break the residual tension in the room. Most of the team shared knowing glances, stifling smirks. It was an open secret that Allen had a huge crush on Jolie, and from the way Jolie’s eyes briefly lingered on him before she quickly looked away, she seemed pretty interested in him as well. Still, both of them chose to say absolutely nothing, keeping their feelings tightly under wraps.
Joanna looked at her friend, a soft, amused smile on her face, and asked, “So, what do you want to tell us?”
Jolie gave a dramatic “Hmph!” and tossed her head, though the excitement quickly returned to her eyes. She stepped into the center of the room and held her palm out toward everyone.
“Watch, Boss!” she said proudly.
Everyone leaned forward as a tiny green sprout suddenly broke through the skin of her palm, quickly winding upward into a small, vibrant vine with tiny leaves. It blossomed a second later into a bright yellow flower before gently detaching itself, leaving her hand completely unblemished.
