Rewrite the Apocalypse dream (by Dee Cari) novel Chapter 135

Chapter 135 Can we trust him?

Finished

The living room emptied instantly as the residents scattered back to their respective apartments to framically pack their lives into cardboard boxes and duffel bags. Once the heavy oak door clicked shut, leaving only her tight-knit core group, Joanna turned to face them, her demeanor shifting into full logistical

command.

“You guys head into the storage space and pull out everything you’ll need for the journey, and absorb cores; Joanna instructed, her voice low and efficient. “Uncle Nate, Jolie-check the warehouse setup inside as well Make sure the inventory is organized before the main haul tomorrow. I need to have a quick conversation with Caleb before I join you guys.”

Without waiting for a reply, Joanna focused her mind on her level 13 storage space. With a practiced, effortless flick of her wrist, the air around her team distorted for a fraction of a second. In a seamless blur of movement, Julian, Rachel, Kailee, Jake, Jolie, Allen, Uncle Nate, Raven, and Titan vanished into thin air. The apartment fell into a sudden, echoing silence. Joanna turned on her heel, walked out of the apartment, and headed straight downstairs to find Caleb.

Joanna stepped into the bottom-floor apartment, where the remaining residents were frantically packing.

Danielle paused, offering a warm smile. “Are you hungry, Joanna?”

Joanna smiled and shook her head, locking eyes with Caleb. “No, thank you. Caleb, can I have a word?”

Caleb set his gear down and followed her upstairs. Back in the quiet second-floor apartment, he looked around the empty room. “Where is everyone?”

“In the space,” Joanna replied flatly.

Joanna motioned for Caleb to sit down at the central table, her expression turning deeply analytical. “I need to ask you about Briggs,” she said, leaning against the counter. “In my dream, I never remember him being a part of the convoy to Evercrest. He wasn’t there.”

Caleb sat, his expression growing serious as he nodded in agreement. “You’re right, Joanna. He isn’t supposed to be.”

The revelation hung in the quiet apartment, shifting the weight of their upcoming journey. Joanna leaned forward, her analytical gaze narrowing as she processed Caleb’s confirmation.

Joanna’s breath hitched, a rare flicker of panic piercing her analytical composure as she connected the dots. Because she had warned William to bypass the Eldon mall, Commander Briggs had survived. Her intervention had completely altered the timeline.

“Because I warned William… Briggs lived,” Joanna whispered, gripping the table. “His survival, the corruption in Aurora-it’s all happening because I interfered.”

Caleb leaned forward, his expression heavy with unwavering gravity.

“Exactly,” Caleb explained. “From the moment you woke up, you have rewritten everything from your dream.”

He gestured to the quiet apartment around them. “In your dream, did you have a level 13 space this early? Did you save William’s squad? Did you have this core group armed and ready before the haul?”

Chapter 135 Can we trust him?

Finished

Joanna stared at him as the weight of her choices crashed down. Every tactical warning and early resource

d-splintered the future she thought she knew.

“You aren’t just surviving the timeline anymore, Joanna,” Caleb said softly. “You are creating a new one. The dream can’t protect you from what’s coming.”

Joanna’s eyes narrowed as another realization struck her. “What about Jake and Raven? I dreamed of them and rescued them, too.”

Caleb paused, his posture stiffening as a visible wave of nervousness washed over him. He avoided her sharp gaze for a brief second before looking back up.

“That is a side effect of linking myself to you through dreams,” Caleb admitted, his voice tight. “The connection isn’t passive, Joanna. The effect causes ripples in timelines and occurrences.”

He rubbed the back of his neck, the analytical certainty he usually carried fracturing. “When our minds linked, your subconscious didn’t just pull information from the original timeline. It actively pulled them toward you. Their dangers, their locations-everything shifted to ensure your paths crossed early.”

Joanna absorbed the words, her mind racing. Jake and Raven weren’t just lucky rescues; their entire presence here was a direct consequence of a cosmic glitch she and Caleb had created. The safety net of her memories was officially gone, replaced by a volatile reality of her own making.

Joanna’s hands tightened against the counter, the weight of the unstable timeline pressing heavily on her. Sensing her rising panic, Caleb stepped closer, his voice dropping into a steady, grounding register to calm

her down.

“Hey, look at me,” Caleb urged, his nervous energy vanishing as he focused entirely on steadying her. “The dream was a tragedy, Joanna. It was a roadmap of failure where most of us died.”

He reached out, his expression turning fierce with conviction. “Don’t look at the ripples as a mistake. Every unknown ripple is your opportunity to do better.”

Joanna locked eyes with him, her breathing slowing as his words took hold.

“You saved William. You saved Jake and Raven,” Caleb reminded her gently. “They are alive, armed, and fighting the apocalypse because you broke the script. The future isn’t a trap anymore-it’s something you are actively building.”

The tension in Joanna’s shoulders finally bled away, replaced by her signature cold, lethal focus. The map was gone, but she still held the wheel.
