Chapter 137 The new warehouse in the space
y jumped back in the storage space, the reality around them blurring before solidifying into the metallic, sprawling interior of the warehouse. Joanna left Jolie to her programming, walking in the villa to check on the rest of the crew.
Joanna scanned the villa and saw everyone was freshly showered and packing food for the trip/ For the crew heading to the safe house, Joanna updated them about Jolie’s tablet, explaining that getting food and supplies on the road would be a lot easier now. A wave of relief washed over the room, and everyone smiled. the tension of the upcoming haul lifting slightly.
Joanna stepped out into the quiet living room section. She spotted Allen off alone in the corner, looking visibly sad as he stared down at his hands.
Joanna walked over and stood beside him. “What’s on your mind, Allen?”
Allen let out a heavy sigh, his shoulders slumping. “It’s frustrating, Joanna. Everyone else is locking down their roles, unlocking abilities, and making things happen. I’m one of the only ones who doesn’t have a super power yet. I feel like I’m lagging behind, like I can’t protect the group when we drive off tomorrow.”
Joanna leaned against the wall beside him, her expression softening as she looked at him. “Allen, do you think I chose this core group based purely on magic tricks?”
Allen blinked, looking up at her in surprise.
“Everyone is so focused on the flashiest abilities that they forget what actually keeps people alive,” Joanna said, her voice dropping into a steady, grounding tone. “Powers don’t give you discipline. They don’t give you loyalty, or tactical awareness, or the ability to keep your head cool when everything falls apart. You have those things naturally.”
She placed a firm, reassuring hand on his shoulder, locking eyes with him.
“Your worth to this team isn’t tied to a countdown clock for a power,” Joanna told him flatly. “I need your brain, your hands, and your eyes on the road tomorrow. Don’t rush it. When your power manifests, it will happen exactly when we need it most. Until then, you are already keeping us together.”
Allen stared at her for a moment, the heavy tension slowly draining from his shoulders. He let out a breath. a faint, genuine smile finally breaking through his frustration. “Thanks, Joanna. I needed to hear that.”
“Get some rest,” Joanna nodded, patting his shoulder before turning back toward the main hub. “Tomorrow, the real work begins.”
Joanna nodded, patting his shoulder. “And Allen, do me a favor. Let the team know I’m going to relax for a few hours until it’s time to leave. Can you tell RJ, Kailee, and Julian to get some rest too? Tonight is going to be rough.”
Allen nodded, his expression turning serious as he accepted the command. “I’ll make sure they get the message, Boss. Get some sleep.”
Joanna turned and walked toward her private quarters within the storage space, the heavy weight of the timeline resting squarely on her shoulders. She closed the door, blocking out the low hum of the warehouse and the chatter of her crew.

Lying back, she stared up at the ceiling, her mind automatically cycling through the variables. Commander Briggs was alive. Elliot Jensen’s mole was already waiting in the Eldon mall. Jax was moving pieces in the
Maybe if she had the chance tomorrow, she would kill Elliot herself. She sighed internally.
The dream was officially dead, replaced by a volatile web of casualties and consequences she had spun herself. Closing her eyes, Joanna took a deep, steadying breath, letting her analytical mind quiet down as she laid on her bed to take a nap.
Joanna drifted into a restless sleep, a dream took shape and she was vanishing into a dark, freezing subterranean lab. Only emergency lights at the end of the corridors were flashing.
Julian appeared, sprinting down a metallic corridor while crackling arcs of blue electricity violently rippled from his hands. Suddenly, an overhead vent popped open. A man in a torn, blood-stained lab coat climbed out, calmly pulled a leaf from his pocket, and began chewing it thoughtfully as he watched Julian run past,
At the end of the hall, an unseen force slammed Julian backward against the wall. Coughing up blood, Julian scrambled to his feet and fled back toward the vent. A massive, powerful zombie erupted from the shadows, closing the distance instantly. Julian pivoted, raising his hands to blast the beast with lightning.
Before the current could leave his fingertips, the scientist lunged from the periphery, driving a heavy microscope into the back of Julian’s skull. The electricity vanished, and Julian crumpled into unconsciousness.
