She focused her intent and exited the pocket dimension. Reappearing instantly in the center of her hotel room, she walked toward the bathroom to wash her face. But the moment her fingers gripped the heavy brushed-steel lever of the door, a sickening crunch echoed through the
room.
The solid metal handle shattered into sharp fragments right beneath her palm.
Joanna leaped backward, magically appearing 15 feet from the door, her pulse hammering as she stared at the ruined door. What the hell, I just teleported? Not only could she seamlessly teleport her physical mass between dimensions, but she had just crushed solid steel like wet tissue paper. She tried another minute to and to her surprise she was able to teleport back to the door. Also, she just activated some strange strength ability. She looked at her hands.
The spring water.
She had chugged two entire glasses of the rejuvenating elixir the night before to survive the earring evolution. It hadn’t just healed her headache; it had permanently altered her genetic ceiling. She started to connect teleportation with her spatial ability. She could sense herself using her spatial eye she discovered yesterday.
I’ve awakened a secondary mutation: Absolute Strength.
A thrill of predatory excitement coursed through her veins. Between her infinite spatial inventory, her teleportation anchor, and a raw physical power that could crush steel, she was rapidly becoming an apex predator before the first zombie ever turned. Did the spring water possess enough evolutionary energy to max out her strength, or would she eventually need to hunt high-level zombie cores to fuel it? She would have to test the limits later.
Slipping into a fresh change of clothes, Joanna downloaded the synced remote footage from her hidden mansion cameras onto a burner phone, tucking it into her pocket to watch during her flight.
After checking out of the hotel, she walked down the block to the upscale diner to retrieve her massive catering order. Along the way, she stopped at a tech kiosk and purchased five prepaid burner phones using untraceable cash. Activating the first one, she shot an encrypted text to her corporate attorney, instructing him to use this private line exclusively once he successfully drained Gwen’s hidden assets.
When she arrived at the diner, the manager eagerly wheeled out four heavy-duty, insulated catering crates.
“One hundred signature bacon burgers, one hundred orders of hand-cut fries, and one hundred assorted milkshakes, packed to temperature,” the manager announced proudly.

Joanna tipped him generously, hauled the 3 heavy crates out to the curb, and hailed a taxi. The moment she settled into the back seat, she subtly brushed her hand against the plastic crates. Without the driver ever noticing, the massive bulk of hot food and freezing shakes vanished from the floor, materializing perfectly preserved onto the metal shelves of her mental fortress.
“Actually, driver, change of plans,” Joanna said, her eyes catching a familiar figure standing outside a food truck across the street. “Wait for me here and I will be back in a little bit. You can keep your meter running.”
She got out of the cab, grabbed her noticeably lighter crates and stepped across the street, her gaze locking onto a college-aged girl in a faded denim jacket ordering a breakfast wrap at the outdoor food truck counter. The girl’s voice was a sudden, sharp trigger for Joanna’s memories.
Jolie.
In her past life, Jolie had been a fellow student who crossed paths with Joanna’s family during the chaotic six-month convoy to the Evercrest Survivor Base. Alice had utterly despised her because Jolie came from an impoverished background, raised by a struggling older aunt. Yet, despite her lack of wealth, Jolie had been an absolute prodigy of survival. Because she grew up poor, she was a master prepper-highly skilled in industrial canning, meat salting, and long- term food preservation.
