“I just sent the initial fifty thousand,” Joanna said, putting her phone away. “I want you to pack up your apartment and pack your prepper stash. Since you have no ties here, it’ll be easiest for you to live with me over in the city by the coast.”
Jolie stared at her phone’s banking notification, her face lighting up with a massive grin. “No problem, boss! Honestly, with this kind of capital, I might pack up and get out there sooner than you think.”
“Perfect.” Jolie stood up and glanced at the taxi across the street happily waiting for her return, then said “I have to catch my flight,” Joanna instructed, rising from the booth. “I’ll text you a secure address and debrief you on our full operations once you arrive, okay?”
“You got it, boss. Safe travels!” Jolie cheered.
Joanna left the crates and asked Jolie to take care of them for her. All the food safely in her upgraded space Jolie thought these empty crates would be great to pack up her things. Then Joanna ran across the street and took her taxi to the airport.
The flight back to the coast was flawless, and it provided the perfect opportunity to review her investments. The micro-wireless cameras were proving to be worth their weight in gold.
Watching the live cloud feeds on her burner phone while waiting at the terminal, Joanna watched Alice’s birthday gala from the night before devolve into a social execution. Her stepsister was utterly humiliated when the luxury catering spread she had bragged about failed to materialize, leaving her wealthy guests staring at a pathetic, empty pantry.
Gwen’s fury was even more spectacular; the hidden lenses captured her screaming and throwing crystal decor the moment she discovered her safe had been entirely cleaned out. Because Joanna had played the submissive, fragile daughter right up until her departure, they hadn’t linked the heist to her yet-but their realization was inevitable.
The biggest shock came an hour into the footage: Drew had actually shown up to the party after all, clearly driven by the scent of money. Since Alice hadn’t processed the shares yet, the camera captured her frantically cornering him in a quiet hallway, handing over her last personal five million dollars in liquid bonds before he left. Joanna smirked, locking her phone screen. Once the bank rejected the counterfeit corporate shares tomorrow, the vipers would finally realize they were completely ruined.
Back at her coastal student apartment, Joanna was eager to benchmark her newly awakened strength base. She needed to know if her raw physical power could be augmented by upgrading her spatial domain or drinking the spring water.
She went down to the apartment complex’s basement recycling depot and retrieved a couple of discarded steel construction pipes. Back in her living room, she gripped the end of the first

pipe. With a light squeeze, the solid metal twisted and compressed under her fingers as if it were a cheap paperclip. Steeling her stance, she launched a heavy punch directly into the center of the second pipe. The metal didn’t shatter, but it buckled instantly into a sharp, broken shape.
A solid baseline, she noted.
Hoping to push the limit, she physically traveled into her space, stood beside the bubbling spring, and chugged three large glasses of the pristine water. Reappearing in her living room, she struck the bent pipe a second time. The structural damage was identical.
Good to know, Joanna analyzed. The spring provides instant cellular healing and infinite energy, but it doesn’t automatically stack raw physical attributes. I’ll need high-level zombie crystal cores to elevate my strength past level one maybe?
Next, she spent an hour calibrating her teleportation mechanics. She discovered her original physical displacement line was strictly capped at fifteen feet. However, she engineered an ingenious combat loophole: she could physically dissolve into her pocket dimension and without actually stepping in her space she could suspend herself in a blink of an eye and move herself in less than a second. With practice she quickly became seamless.
Hungry from the exertion, she pulled one of the diner burgers from her mental shelf-it was still steaming, the cheese perfectly melted-and entered into her space to soak in her villa’s fully functional bath, discovering to her delight that the plumbing now provided instant warm and cold water.
Refreshed, she returned to her bedroom and laid out the loose gems and the two carved jade elephants she had purchased from the flea market. She wanted her system entirely reinforced and had a feeling there were higher upgrades to her defense in the future.
