Chapter 179 We Can Settle The Score Later
Jonna tapped her fingers against her mug, weighing the timeline. If the local undead numbers were
manageable, it meant they could secure the surrounding perimeter much faster than anticipated,

“Ok, what about the supply runs in Dillon?” Joanna asked, steering the conversation back to their primary
targets.
Caleb’s expression shifted, a genuine look of worry clouding his face. “I sense a heavy danger in the specifi place Commander Briggs listed.”
Briggs tensed at the warning, though he didn’t look entirely surprised. “Is it that snake Jax? he demanded, his voice dropping an octave.
“No,” Caleb replied, shaking his head. “Jax and Elliot barely managed to escape the tsunami. They are heading up north right now to lick their wounds and regroup. But I can tell you that several people in that raider camp have recently awakened abilities. When we do end up fighting them in the future, it won’t be an easy win.”
The revelation cast a brief, sobering silence over the cozy tent. The rules of engagement were changing rapidly, and their enemies were leveling up just as fast as they were.
Joanna shrugged, leaning back. “We can settle the score with Elliot and Jax another time. My main concern right now is supplies and winter survival.”
She mapped out the timeline on the whiteboard for the day ahead. “After checking out the eastern farm this morning,” Joanna said, “I plan to head straight into Dillon with my core crew.”
Besides the canning factory that Briggs wanted to stop by, Joanna had her sights set on a massive distribution center she remembered vividly from her prophetic pre-apocalypse dreams. In that dream, she had only managed to scavenge a few bags of food before a group of rough-looking men arrived and took over the facility, forcing her to run. This time, backed by a powered-up squad and heavy military fire support, she wanted to see if she could secure the entire haul before anyone else could claim it. The remaining locations on the map could easily wait for the day after.
“Alright,” Joanna said, looking around the tent at her team, everyone already buzzing with the clean, elevated energy “We have our plan for today. Let’s finish our coffee, grab our gear, and move out.”
Briggs ordered Will to take a squad to the surrounding properties to scavenge, reminding them to collect every zombie core they could find. Allen spoke up, volunteering to go with Will’s team. He didn’t have any superpowers, but he was pretty good with his baseball bat and knives. Joanna agreed, giving him a nod of approval.
As Will turned to leave, Kailee stared after him with a longing look. Joanna sighed softly, catching the expression. “Kailee, you can go too. Keep an eye out for Allen and Will.”
Kailee’s face instantly lit up with intense energy. “Thanks, boss! Don’t worry, I will clear the zombies and help them stay safe.” Without losing a second, she eagerly chased after them.
The remaining field team walked out of the courtyard and stopped dead in their tracks, looking at the massive, heavily armored tactical beast of a vehicle sitting in the driveway.
Briggs let out a low whistle of genuine appreciation. “This is a dream vehicle, Joanna. Can I drive it?”

Julian glared at him instantly, his voice dripping with venom. “No. Of course you can’t.”

Jak who was already holding the keys, shrugged with a smirk. “Sorry, Commander. It’s my turn behind the wheel.”
The rest of the group just shook their heads, laughing softly at the immediate power struggle over the driver’s seat.
Joanna looked up, almost forgetting about Warren and Michelle. The two scientists were standing nearby, looking incredibly nervous and tightly gripping heavy wooden baseball bats, clearly trying to psych themselves up for a brutal battle.
“We’re… we’re ready, Joanna,” Warren said, his voice cracking slightly as he clumsily swung his bat in the air. “Just show us where the zombies are. I’ve been practicing my stance in the mirror.”
Michelle nodded aggressively, her knuckles white. “Yeah. I read a medical paper on cranial fractures once I know exactly where to hit them to hit the brain stem. We won’t let you down, boss.”
Joanna blinked at them, trying to process the visual, before she waved her hands frantically to cut them off “No, no! You guys are staying right here. Absolutely no field duty for you two.”
Warren let out a breath so heavy his shoulders visibly sagged, instantly dropping his bat onto the gravel. “Oh, thank god,” he whispered. “My knees were literally shaking.”
