Chapter 193 The First Kiss

Finished

Jonna felt pulled downstairs to the basement security room. Right now, it sat mostly unused, waiting for a permanent place to manifest the villa outside.

The blood-bonded contract was posted on the board. Joanna leaned in to read it. Her core team had signed alongside Briggs, bringing the total to eight. She had a limit of ten before, but the system had advanced. The contract now listed 10 + 10. Twenty open slots she could fill.

“Julian, look at that!” Joanna breathed, pointing at the board.

Julian leaned over her shoulder, dark eyes locking onto the document. He was already deeply irritated by the system’s use of the term ‘spouses’-and now there were twenty slots?

“Joanna!” Julian snapped, his rough voice vibrating against the nape of her neck as he spun her around. “What is wrong with this kinky storage space! How many spouses do you plan to get?!”

Joanna blinked, her cheeks flushing with sudden annoyance. She flatly pushed against his solid chest to force some distance between them.

“Julian, what is wrong with you?” Joanna huffed. “I don’t have one spouse, much less multiple! It’s an expansion for our fighting squad, you idiot. We are looking at potential army slots, not a harem. We have a literal apocalypse mutating outside this basement.”

Julian relaxed his stance just a fraction, a stubborn smirk returning to his lips. “Fine. But I am claiming the first spot on whatever list this space creates.”

Joanna rolled her eyes and tried to walk around him. She didn’t make it two paces before Julian’s hand shot out, his fingers wrapping firmly but gently around her wrist.

“Julian, let go,” Joanna muttered, keeping her back to him. Her heart was treasonously accelerating.

“Not until you answer me,” Julian said, his low timbre coating the quiet basement. He stepped closer, his chest brushing her back, radiating a palpable, magnetic heat. With a deliberate movement, he turned her around until she was forced to look up at him..

“You always dodge it, Joanna,” Julian murmured, his gaze dropping to her lips before snapping back to her eyes. “I want to know. Do you have feelings for me? Or am I just a useful weapon in your arsenal?”

Joanna’s breath hitched. Over weeks of surviving together, he became someone she leaned on. But after the trauma of her past prophetic dreams, vulnerability felt like a weakness she couldn’t afford.

“Julian, this isn’t the time-” she whispered.

“It is the exact time,” he interrupted, leaning closer.

The atmosphere grew heavy. Joanna could feel the static tingle of his lightning element in the air. Her fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt, unable to pull away. Recognizing the conflict on her face, Julian shifted his hand to the small of her back, steadying her, while his other hand brushed a strand of hair from her face.

“The truth is right there,” Julian whispered.

He didn’t force it. Instead, he tilted his head, his lips hovering a mere fraction of an inch above hers. He let his warm breath brush her skin, testing her limits. His thumb softly stroked her jawline, a silent, persuasive

litation.

“Kiss me, Joanna,” he murmured against her lips, his voice a low, intoxicating friction. “Prove to me I’m more than just a weapon.”

The vulnerability and raw sincerity in his eyes completely shattered Joanna’s defenses. Unable to withstand the sweet torture of his restraint, she leaned up, bridging the final distance herself to press her lips to his.

The moment they met, the static tension exploded. Julian didn’t hold back anymore; the kiss became dominant, deep, and fiercely passionate. His hand at her back tightened, pulling her flush against his chest, his fingers tangling into her hair as a low growl vibrated in his throat.

Joanna gasped softly, surrendering completely. Her hands slid up to grip his shoulders, digging into his tactical shirt. The air felt thick and electric, as they melted into one another. She matched his fire with her own, kissing him back with equal intensity until her knees felt weak.
