After a few blinks, Joanna knew she could not deny this chemistry anymore. With a small sigh, she stepped back a little, her hands slipping from his shoulders while he still held her firmly by the waist.
“Julian, it’s not that I don’t want this,” Joanna said, her voice steadying as her focus locked back into place. “But the timing is horrible. Can we take it slow? Will you have patience?”
Julian understood she needed a sense of control over her life, especially after everything she had been through. He felt the exact same way. Dating is not something one does in an apocalypse, right? He nodded slowly, his dark eyes fixed on hers, waiting for her to go on.
“I can’t just rush into a relationship, Julian,” Joanna said softly, her voice carrying the weight of her cautious boundaries.
Julian’s chest rose and fell with a heavy breath as he stared down at her, his pride completely discarded. know I’m a lot to handle. I’m clingy, I’m possessive, and I want to dominate every piece of your world. I know it’s crazy, but that’s who I am when it comes to you.”
A small, genuine smile tugged at the corners of Joanna’s lips. Instead of pulling away, she reached up, her hand settling gently against his jaw.
“I know you are,” she murmured, accepting the raw truth of his words without a hint of fear. “But your loyalty from the very beginning… that is what won me over. You’ve always been there, guarding my back.”
She leaned in slightly, her thumb tracing his cheekbone to soothe the desperate tension lines in his face. “So try to stop being so worried. We don’t need to force anything. It will happen naturally.”
Julian felt the knot in his chest ease and warmth flood his heart, seeing their fingers loosely interlaced as they walked through the quiet corridors.
“It’s late,” Joanna admitted, looking up at him as the fatigue from the grueling day finally began to catch up to her. “I still need to figure out everything in my space, but I am actually tired. I am going to bring the team inside the space and sleep.”
Julian stopped her near the top of the stairs, turning to face her with an intense, playful look that made the corners of his mouth twitch with silent amusement. His dark eyes glinted in the dim shadows of the bunker, his posture practically begging for an invitation.
Joanna smiled, leaning forward to press a quick, affectionate kiss to his lips. Before his smirk could widen, she stepped back, completely out of his reach.
“But I meant I will sleep alone, silly CEO,” she added with a mischievous wink.
Julian let out a low, mock-defeated sigh, raising his hands in surrender as she burst into a quiet chuckle. The playful banter was the perfect release before leaving the space.
Joanna knew she still needed to absorb more cores, but the emotional rollercoaster of today finally caught up to her, making her yawn.
With a smooth flash of spatial light, she exited her pocket dimension and stepped back into the quiet, reinforced underground bunker. Her core team was already down there, sitting together on the sofa and folding chairs, waiting for her to reappear before they locked down the base for the night.

“Listen up, everyone,” Joanna announced, her voice thick with fatigue as she looked around at her waiting
I want everyone to go inside right now and sleep. We will absorb our remaining cores first thing in the morning when our minds are fresh.”
The team, noticing her exhaustion, nodded in understanding. Julian gave her a subtle, knowing glance from the edge of the hallway, keeping his promise of professionalism completely intact.
With a collective nod, Joanna extended her hand, pulling the entire group out of the underground bunker and into the tranquil, warm expanse of her upgraded villa space to rest for the night. She quickly took a shower and fell asleep almost instantly inside the peaceful villa.
Slowly, she began to dream. The tranquil darkness of her sleep warped into a jagged, blood-soaked nightmare, and she realized she was standing at Leo’s farm again under a suffocating, grey sky.
Two massive, filthy raiders-reeking of rot and malice-had breached the porch. They were brutally battering Leo, their heavy boots fracturing his ribs as they tried to smash open his farmhouse door.
From the shadows of the porch, Leo’s zombie aunt lashed out, the rusted iron chains rattling violently as her jaw unhinged with a sickening crack. She clamped her decaying teeth into one raider’s throat, tearing away a chunk of flesh in a spray of dark blood. The wounded man shrieked, collapsing into convulsions, while his partner swung a rusted, heavy woodcutter’s axe downward to cleave the zombie’s skull in two.
Using desperate superhuman speed, Leo threw himself forward, shoving his chained aunt out of the way. The heavy iron blade buried itself deep into Leo’s shoulder with a horrifying, wet crunch, slicing through muscle and splintering bone.
Leo hit the wooden floorboards, a guttural groan escaping his lips as thick, steaming arterial blood gushed from the wound.
