Chapter 214 Level Two Zombies

Joanna lowered her hands, her eyes scanning the dark, hollowed-out service bays. “Clear the perimeter,” she ordered in a low whisper “Afterwards, I will see if there’s any fuel left in those underground tanks. If we can salvage it, I’m draining it.”
“On it,” Jake murmured, stepping forward.
Before they could take a single step toward the pumps, the silence shattered.
The rotted plywood boarding up the gas station windows didn’t just break-it exploded. Eight figures lunged into the fading twilight, moving with a speed that defied their bulk. They weren’t shamblers. Corded muscle strained against bruised gray skin, and their eyes burned with a feral yellow hunger. The creatures split with terrifying coordination, five barreling toward Julian and Joanna, three surging at Jake and Jolie. The attack was all the warning they needed.
The horde split with terrifying coordination. Three surged toward Jake and Jolie, while the remaining five barreled straight for Julian and Joanna.
Jake snapped his hands outward, unleashing his metal ability. The rusted steel rebar inside the shattered concrete barriers groaned, ripping free from the stone like jagged lances. He hurled them forward, impaling the lead zombie through the shoulder, but the Level 2 variant barely flinched, snapping the metal rod with its bare hands and continuing its charge.
Beside him, Jolie tapped into her plant-type ability. She slammed her palms onto the gravel, and thick, thorny vines erupted from the cracked asphalt beneath the station. The vines whipped upward, wrapping tightly around the legs of two charging variants, their jagged thorns sinking into leathery flesh to anchor them in place. “They’re heavy! Take them down now!” Jolie shouted, straining to hold the thrashing
monsters.
On the other side of the tarmac, Julian stepped forward as three variants bore down on him. Blue arcs of light began to dance across his knuckles as he channeled his electricity. With a sharp thrust of his palms, he unleashed a blinding bolt of chain lightning. The high-voltage current slammed into the center zombie, instantly arc-ing to the two beside it. The raw electricity convulsed their nervous systems, forcing them to a grinding halt as smoke rose from their charred skin though their Level 2 resilience kept them from dropping.
The final two variants leaped from the gas station roof, descending right toward Julian’s blind spot.
Joanna didn’t hesitate. Her power flared, and with a sharp flash, she teleported directly into the air above them. Materializing right between the falling monsters, she unleashed her super strength. She grabbed both zombies by their throats mid-air, spun violently, and slammed them down into the asphalt with a bone-shattering crunch. The impact cratered the road, pinning them instantly.
Without breaking momentum, Joanna blinked again, reappearing right in front of the variant struggling against Jolie’s vines. With a devastating, super-strength uppercut, she launched the massive creature straight through the gas station’s rusted awning, bringing the metal support beams crashing down..
“Keep the pressure on!” Joanna barked, her voice cutting through the crackle of electricity and snarling. “We take them down together!”
With the Level 2 variants temporarily contained, the team executed a flawless, coordinated strike to finish

Julian amplified his voltage, sending a massive, blinding web of electricity pulsing across the damp tarmac. The current surged straight into Jolie’s thorny vines, using the plant matter as a natural conductor. The trapped zombies roared in agony as thousands of volts cooked them from the inside out, paralyzing their
muscles.
“Jake, crush ’em!” Jolie yelled, keeping her palms pressed to the earth to sustain the vines.
Jake didn’t waste a second. He focused his mind, channeling his metal ability toward the gas station’s collapsing infrastructure. The heavy iron beams of the awning and the rusted sheet metal roofing twisted violently in mid-air. With a sharp clenching gesture of his fists, Jake slammed the massive metal remnants downward, compacting them into a makeshift hydraulic press that flattened the remaining electrified variants underneath a ton of scrap.
The final, charred zombie managed to crawl free from the wreckage, snapping its jaws wildly. Joanna simply materialized directly above it. She dropped straight down, driving her heel into its skull with a devastating, super-strength stomp that shattered the asphalt and ended the threat instantly.
