Chapter 227 Joanna’s Fury

Finished

Several mutated zombies in the front lines were manifesting abilities of their own, throwing up jagged shields of compacted earth, hurling bursts of wild fire, and splashing pressurized torrents of water to break the squad’s lines. But these creatures were fundamentally weaker, entirely lacking the refined control and overwhelming output of Joanna’s battle hardened crew.

Briggs and Kailee led the vanguard, testing their newly discussed strategy. Briggs thrust his arms forward, unleashing a roaring jet of flame, while Kailee whipped her hands through the air to summon a precise, swirling vortex of wind. The gale fed the fire instantly, transforming it into a towering, localized firestorm that incinerated a dozen level-two zombies in seconds, leaving nothing but ash.

Right beside them, Julian and Jake executed their own lethal combination. Jake reached out with his metal ability, ripping metal doors and jagged hoods off the abandoned cars to form a massive, crushing cage around a cluster of superpowered zombies. The moment the metal trapped them, Julian blasted a high- voltage current straight into the steel. The makeshift cage lit up with crackling, blinding electricity, frying the trapped monsters instantly. Jolie anchored the flanks, her thick, thorned earth vines tearing through the asphalt to smash any stragglers trying to circle around.

The team was completely dominating the battlefield, but the moment Joanna joined the fray, the violence reached an entirely new level. Joanna was undeniably furious!

She moved through the remaining horde not like a soldier, but like a force of pure nature, her physical parameters boosted to terrifying, unnatural levels.

Pop.

She blinked into a cluster of three level-two variants. Before they could react, she spun, the momentum of her enhanced strength driving her sickle sword through their torsos, severing them cleanly in half. She didn’t pause. Grabbing an earth-wielding zombie by its jaw, she slammed its head into the asphalt with enough explosive velocity to shatter the concrete beneath, pulverizing the skull instantly.

Pop. Pop. Pop.

She was everywhere at once, a glitching specter of death. When a fire-throwing monster tried to aim a blast toward Jolie, Joanna materialized directly inside its guard. She caught its outstretched arms, snapped them backwards with a sickening crunch, and tore the limbs completely free from their sockets before driving her boot through its chest cavity.

The battlefield fell dead silent as the final level-two corpse thudded against the ice. Joanna stood in the center of the butcher shop, completely drenched in black, viscous blood, her chest rising and falling in steady rhythms. Her sickle sword gleamed dark under the pale December sky.

Even after their own fierce, high-powered display of dominance, Jake, Julian, and the rest of the team lowered their weapons and stared at her in absolute, stunned silence. The sheer ferocity of her lone assaul left them shaking, a primal awe tightening in their chests. Looking at her standing victoriously amidst the carnage, a single moniker cemented itself in the minds of everyone present.

She really does earn her nickname. She was the Demoness.

Jake was the first to lower his hands, his wide eyes scanning the absolute wreckage Joanna had left in her wake. He looked at her blood-drenched jacket, then back to the pile of severed limbs, and let out a low

“Note to self,” Jake muttered, shaking his head in disbelief. “If the apocalypse ever ends, I am never challenging you to a street fight. You make those level-threes look like toddlers throwing a tantrum.”

Julian cracked a nervous grin, stepping around a fried level-two corpse. “Seriously, Joanna. You look less like a savior and more like a horror movie villain who walked out of the screen. If we ran into another convoy right now, they’d probably shoot at you on instinct,”

“I think the term ‘Demoness’ fits perfectly,” Kailee chipped in, crossing her arms to ward off the December chill, though a smirk played on her lips. “You’ve got that whole terrifying, unholy warlord aesthetic going on today. Very fashionable for the apocalypse.”

Briggs walked over, completely unfazed by the gore, though a rare, amused glint shone in his dark eyes. He took a clean cloth from his pocket and offered it to her. “You missed a spot on your jaw, Demoness. We should probably get you cleaned up before you terrify the locals.”

Joanna rolled her eyes at their antics, taking the cloth to wipe the viscous black blood from her face, a small smile breaking through her grim exterior.

Joanna looked down at her ruined jacket and sighed, the freezing December wind stiffening the black sludge on her clothes. “Alright, enough joking around. I need to clean up, and we all deserve a breather after that mess.”

Before vanishing, she swept her arm out in a wide, fluid arc. With a sharp wave of her hand, a magnetic pull of energy rippled across the frozen highway. Dozens of glowing level-one and level-two zombie cores tore free from the mangled corpses, flying through the air in a glittering stream straight into her storage
