Chapter 241 Unexpected Familiar Person

Space warped instantly, dropping Joanna soundlessly into the ruins three blocks away. She pressed against a concrete wall, melting into the shadows. Directly ahead stood a jagged storefront marked by a faded red sign and the weathered digits 416
Inside, the low voices of several Progeny soldiers drifted through the freezing air. They wore mismatched survivor clothes-covered in dirt and grime.
“I’m telling you, the scouts lost Levi’s heat signatures near the commercial sector,” one soldier muttered. “But forget his starving dogs. Our vanguard just secured that warehouse block on the east side.”
A second soldier adjusted his heavy scarf, his eyes widening. “The one with the untouched food? I thought Blood Fang claimed that territory,”
“They did, but we bypassed their lookouts and took it right from under their noses. The civilian-grade locks were a joke,” the first soldier whispered smugly. “We just got word that the perimeter is locked down. We now hold enough canned rations and preserved meat to feed our enclave for a year. Let Blood Fang waste ammo chasing Levi’s ghost. We hold the real power now.”
Joanna listened from the darkness, a ruthless smile touching her lips. They wanted a diversion. The thought was a spark in the cold, and the Progeny’s warehouse was the tinder.
The warehouse coordinates formed in Joanna’s mind when she asked Caleb for them, her power gathering to a fine point. A crunch of snow cut through the silence. She froze, melting deeper into the wall’s shadow.
A woman in a heavy wool shawl stepped into the light of the chemical heater, carrying a small tin of
crackers.
“Here,” the woman said, her voice raspy. “Rations from the boss.”
The cadence of that voice sent a jolt of pure hatred straight through Joanna’s chest. Joanna shifted, focusing on the woman’s face as she pulled down her scarf.
It was Gwen. The mother Joanna absolutely loathed.
Shock and fury warred within her. Gwen was supposed to be with Elliot and his twisted crew, safely ensconced in their inner circle. What was she doing out here, acting as a low-level ration distributor for the Progeny?
Joanna’s eyes narrowed into dangerous, icy slits as a desperate question flashed through her mind: Where is Alice? If their mother was stranded here in the rugged outer enclaves, what had happened to her sister?
The soldiers took the tin from Gwen, their grimy fingers brushing against hers. One of them smirked, looking over her worn coat with a cold, mocking expression.
“You know, Gwen,” he chuckled, his voice rough and taunting, “I’m glad your daughter left you here in the outer ring instead of taking you along to Elliot’s paradise.”
Gwen’s face contorted with rage. She twisted violently out of the soldier’s grip, her eyes flashing with a sharp, defiant fury. Without a word, she spun on her heel and bolted into the falling snow, running as fast as her ragged boots could carry her.

The soldiers just laughed, making no move to chase her through the freezing wind. One of them lazily adjusted his pants and shifted his heavy belt, a repulsive grin spreading across his face.
“Let her run,” he muttered to the others, chuckling darkly. “We’ll have our fun with her later tonight.”
A wave of icy indifference washes over her, Gwen has made her choice, and Joanna has made hers.
Without a single word, Joanna turned her back on the fleeing woman and the laughing soldiers. Space warped instantly around her as she unleashed her power, teleporting away from the storefront and heading straight toward the coordinates of the newly secured Progeny warehouse.
Joanna materialized inside the shadow of the massive, eastern warehouse block, a predatory ghost in the pale morning light. Moving with fluid, lethal grace, she slipped past the perimeter guards, her spatial perception letting her navigate the blind spots of their dawn patrols effortlessly.
The sight inside was breathtaking-towering rows of wooden crates filled with untouched rations. The Progeny had been stockpiling scavenged goods, confident in their new fortress. They were wrong.
With a single, sweeping gesture, Joanna unleashed her pocket dimension. Spatial tears ripped through the air, a vortex swallowing pallets whole. Within thirty seconds, the entire supply cache vanished, leaving behind nothing but cold, empty concrete.
But she wasn’t done.
Reaching into her dimension, she dragged out heavy industrial drums of gasoline, kicking them over as she moved toward the exit. The volatile fluid hissed across the floorboards, filling the room with chemical
