Chapter 240 Time To Move Out

Joanna shook her head, amused to see Julian had commandeered the far back corner. He had even made Jolie grow a thick vine partition for absolute privacy.

Briggs looked at the cozy setup in pure disgust. He muttered under his breath, turning on his heel to settle Major Levi and the soldiers for the night.

Slowly, the bank lobby fell completely still. The off-duty team members pulled out glowing power cores, quietly absorbing the energy to strengthen their abilities.

With the camp settled, Caleb walked toward the front of the building. His striking, beautiful features faded into the shadows near the security desk as he began his quiet night watch.

Julian guided Joanna behind the vine partition and turned his back completely to give her privacy. His tone was firm. “Change into fresh gear and get some sleep. Now.”

Joanna changed quickly into the clean clothes, then climbed onto the comfortable air mattress. She looked up at him as he turned around, a mischievous glint in her eyes. “And where exactly are you sleeping?”

“With you,” Julian replied without missing a beat. He stepped closer, his demeanor shifting into something intensely possessive and dominant as he sat on the edge of the bed, pulling her slightly closer. “Just holding you. You’re not escaping me tonight.”

Joanna chuckled, leaning back against the pillows to tease him further. “Oh? And isn’t Jessica going to get mad about that?”

Julian’s eyes narrowed, his grip tightening as he grew fiercely defensive and clingy. “Do not bring her up,” he argued, his voice a low, intense rumble. “She and I were never a thing! She chased me. I didn’t respond. I respected her father, but she was another matter entirely. You are the only one I care about.”

1 Julian leaned over her, his fierce defensiveness melting into a gaze so raw, intense, and breathtakingly hot that it left Joanna completely breathless. He reached up, his thumb gently tracing her jawline, his voice dropping to a low, velvety whisper that sent a sudden shiver straight down her spine.

“I spent my entire life building an empire, Joanna, but none of it mattered,” Julian murmured, his dark eyes locking onto hers with absolute devotion. “The world ended, and the only thing that made sense was you. You are my home now. I am never letting you go.”

The words wrapped around Joanna’s heart. She looked up at his striking, dangerously attractive face in quiet disbelief. This was Julian-the Executioner. He was the most feared destroyer of the apocalypse, a man whose very name struck terror into the hearts of survivors and monsters alike. Yet here he was, looking completely irresistible, showing a deep vulnerability meant for her eyes alone.

She let out a soft breath, her arms wrapping around his neck as she pulled his chest down against hers, meeting him in a deep, burning kiss.

When they finally broke apart, Julian pulled her tightly against his chest, wrapping his strong, muscular arms securely around her waist. Cocooned behind the lush vine partition, wrapped in his heat and listening to his steady, rhythmic heartbeat, a profound sense of safety washed over Joanna. Without realizing it, she fell asleep instantly.

Morning arrived far too quickly. Caleb woke everyone up just as the first pale light of dawn touched the edges of the fused steel shutters.

Jolie quickly got to work, pulling warm muffins and pots of steaming coffee out of the pocket dimension. By the time Joanna finished packing away the camping gear, Major Levi and his soldiers were fully equipped and standing ready.

Levi looked vastly better after a night of rest. His men looked visibly transformed-their frames straight, their eyes sharp, and their bodies re-energized. The skeletal exhaustion that had hung over them yesterday was completely gone.

Levi walked over, nodding a sincere greeting. “Your water is amazing,” he said in genuine awe. “The showers last night healed so many wounds my men were carrying. And the water we drafik completely cleared our heads. It was incredible.”

Before Joanna could reply, the young soldier from the night before stepped forward. Tears welled in his eyes, but he held them back as he stood at attention. He looked at Joanna, whispered a deeply respectful thank you, and bowed low. In a fluid, synchronized movement, the other thirty-nine soldiers behind him followed suit, bowing deeply in absolute reverence.

Most of these men had fully expected to die in the freezing dark like the rest of their fallen brothers-in- arms. Joanna hadn’t just given them a meal; she had given them a future.

Looking at the sea of bowed heads, Joanna’s usually frigid demeanor softened. She offered a quiet nod back to the unit. She could be brutal, cold, and utterly ruthless, but she understood their pain perfectly. Looking at their fierce gratitude, she remembered her own past, recalling how she herself had felt that exact same desperate, bone-deep longing for salvation in her dream.

As the group began moving toward the bank’s entrance, Caleb suddenly froze, his striking features tightening with sudden alarm. He closed his eyes for a fraction of a second, his mental threads flaring out across the frozen ruins.

“Joanna-something isn’t right,” Caleb spoke up, his voice sharp and urgent. “The Progeny just moved three blocks away. They aren’t just patrolling; they are hunting for us. The only way to buy enough time for the soldiers to escape is to place the diversion right near them.”

Joanna didn’t hesitate. Her face hardened into an expression of calculated, icy resolve.

“Ok,” she said flatly.

She turned on her heel, her sharp gaze locking onto her core team and Major Levi. “Get into the subway right now and make your way through the underground line. Do not wait for me.”

With a casual wave of her hand, Joanna placed Caleb safely inside her pocket dimension. Safely nestled away from the freezing winter air, Caleb instantly linked his mind to Joanna’s upgraded bracelets, establishing an open-line mental text loop directly into the minds of the entire group.

His voice echoed clearly inside their heads, his thoughts steady despite the tension.
