Chapter 246 Piper To Save The Day!

Finished

Jake and Jolie stepped up, combining their powers to hold the line. Jake wrenched more iron rails from the ground, shaping the jagged metal into spinning blades that diced through the advancing creatures. Simultaneously, Jolie slammed her palms against the concrete, forcing massive, thorny plant vines to erupt directly from her skin, wrapping around the monsters and crushing them against the tracks.

While they bought the team some time, Joanna rushed over to Major Levi.

“I am leaving you a helper,” Joanna said quickly, her voice sharp. “Don’t hurt it”

Before Levi could even process the words, she disappeared in a flash of folded space. The major stood stunned in the darkness, gunfire echoing around him. “A helper? What?” he muttered, looking at the empty spot where she had just been standing.

Ten seconds later, the air rippled violently. Joanna reappeared, and with her came a giant, inutated plant that crashed heavily onto the concrete floor.

It was Piper, the pulser plant. The monster was horrific-a towering mass of coiled green and violet tendrils, crowned by white, orchid-like flowers blooming along its central stalk. The soldiers nearest to it recoiled in sheer terror, their weapons instantly swinging toward the botanical nightmare.

“Protect These soldiers Piper!” Joanna commanded, pointing her sickle sword toward the approaching horde of intelligent zombies.

The air rippled as Piper reacted to Joanna’s command, its white orchid-like flowers glowing faintly as a low vibration shook its stalk.

Jolie moved instantly. Slamming her palms together, she extended thick, thorny vines that intertwined seamlessly with Piper’s coiled green and violet tendrils. Working in perfect synchronization, the botanical duo lashed out across the station, wrapping around the intelligent super zombies like steel cables and pinning them firmly against the wet stone walls.

Joanna didn’t waste a single heartbeat.

In a rapid sequence of concussive pops, she folded space, teleporting from one trapped monster to the next. Her sickle sword flashed through the gloom in a lethal, blinding arc, cleanly decapitating the creatures before they could thrash against their bindings.

Suddenly, one massive zombie ripped through the tangled vines. It tore itself free with a feral screech, lunging straight for the line of soldiers.

Before it could take two steps, the air around Piper warped violently. The plant unleashed a concussive wave of kinetic energy. The invisible pulse hit the lunging creature with shattering force, blasting it backward through the air and shredding it to a bloody pulp before it ever hit the tracks.

Major Levi and his soldiers stood absolutely stunned, staring at the smoking, pulverized remains.

“This monster listens to Joanna?” one of the men whispered, his voice shaking in awe.

Seeing the tide turn, the handful of fleeing zombies skittered along the walls, letting out panicked screeches as they ran down the dark tunnel system.

Piper didn’t let them get far. The massive mutated plant immediately took off after the retreating creatures, its heavy mass plunging forward into the pitch black. The soldiers watched in awe as the botanical nightmare vanished from sight, leaving nothing behind but the wet sound of slithering vines and the distant, violent thud of kinetic air pulses echoing from the deep tunnels.

Everyone stood frozen, completely stunned by the sheer ferocity of the creature. Just how vicious was this plant?

Joanna was the only one who didn’t lose her focus. Moving forward in a huff, she let out an annoyed grumble. “Piper! Get back here!”

Without waiting for the rest of the team, she snatched a heavy flashlight right out of the hand of a stunned soldier and marched directly into the dark void after her rogue plant.

Julian, winded from fighting without his electricity, stood among the soldiers as Major Levi looked at him in disbelief. “That monster is a pet?”

Julian simply nodded, breathing heavily as he wiped sweat from his forehead.

Jolie came jogging over, entirely unbothered by the lingering stench of rot. In her usual happy voice, she beamed, “Isn’t Piper adorable!”

Julian gave a weak shrug but passed her his water bottle to quiet her down.

The surrounding soldiers looked at the two of them in absolute horror. Adorable? That plant had just taken on intelligent, aberrant zombies like it was playing a casual game with friends, and these freaks were acting like it was a golden retriever.

Soon, the beam of the flashlight cut through the darkness as Joanna came marching back, lecturing the giant mutated plant.

The soldiers watched in disbelief as Piper followed behind her, looking distinctly guilty while dragging a mutilated zombie corpse along the tracks.

Joanna stopped and pointed a stern finger at the botanical nightmare. “I thought you only needed dirt and sun to thrive! What is this?”

The plant shook its leaves rapidly, the rustling translating into a distinct voice that echoed in the minds of Joanna’s core team. The regular soldiers heard nothing but rustling, but Joanna’s crew wore special vine bracelets that allowed them to understand the plant’s thoughts.

To them, Piper sounded exactly like a wronged, pouting child. But Friend! The zombies help me get bigger and stronger! Don’t you want me to be stronger?

The team members who could understand the mental broadcast wore complicated, bewildered expressions, completely unsure how to react to a giant killer plant throwing a temper tantrum.

Only Jolie smiled brightly, completely missing the horror of the situation. “Yeah, boss! Let Piper enjoy a snack! She helped us out in a pinch!”

“Fine, but make it quick. We need to leave,” Joanna grumbled, throwing her hands up in defeat.
