Jonna’s voice turned ice-cold, the spatial aura around her tightening dangerously. “You are quite rude for
someone who wants my help.”
Brandon instantly smiled, his voice snooth and entirely unbothered. “And you are quite beautiful and lovely to look at.”
Joanna wasn’t falling for the charm. Keeping her expression blank, she reached into her pocket dimension pulled out a scrap of paper and a pen, and quickly scribbled an address.
“Get out of here now,” she commanded, handing it directly to him. “Go there and wait for me.”
Brandon took the paper, his eyes scanning the ink before his gaze flicked back up to her with that same lingering fervor.
Brandon took the paper but his brow furrowed, a flicker of genuine irritation crossing his features. “I can help you now,” he insisted, his fingers tightening slightly on the scrap of paper as the light snow drifted between them.
Briggs step forward again, his limbs fully back under his own control. This time, he didn’t rely on a witty comeback. He unleashed a crushing, deadly aura that seemed to drop the ambient temperature even lower than the late-night air.
“We don’t need your help,” Briggs said, his voice dropping to a low, rumbling menace that carried the clear promise of violence if Brandon took one more step.
RJ stood right behind them, her glowing eyes locked onto Brandon’s shadow, waiting to see if the psychic was going to push his luck or finally take the hint.
Brandon stared at Briggs, looking thoroughly annoyed. Briggs immediately felt his head go fuzzy, his vision blurring as the psychic grip tightened, but the sensation vanished as quickly as it came.
RJ snapped Brandon’s control, launching a fierce mental attack of her own. Brandon fought the psychic onslaught, but only just barely. He winced, stepping back as he muttered, “You are stronger than I bargained for, Rachel.”
RJ spoke just one word, her voice dripping with venom: “Leave.”
He rubbed his head, trying to shake off the mental strain. “Fine, I will go. But know that I don’t like waiting for you too long.”
Before he could take a step, Joanna folded space. She materialized directly in front of him, grabbed his collar, and shoved him completely over the edge of the building, holding him suspended over the drop in a white-knuckle grip.
“Don’t threaten or harm my team ever, or I will kill you,” Joanna hissed.
Instead of panicking, Brandon looked absolutely delighted to have Joanna holding him. She shook him hard, irritated by his lack of fear.
“Okay, my demoness,” Brandon smiled, his voice smooth. “I understand.”

He reached up and gently caressed her hand. Joanna frowned in disgust before violently pulling him back over the ledge and throwing him twenty feet across the roof toward the stairwell door.
“Love now,” she demanded, her spatial aura flaring dangerously. “Before I kill you.”
Brandon pushed himself up, casually dusting the fresh snow off his dark cape. Before he could make another smug remark, RJ slammed her mental threads into him again, forcing him right back down onto the gravel.
He didn’t fight back this time. Instead, the shadows around his fallen form stretched and swirled. Brandon literally melted into the darkness, vanishing from their sight completely unseen. It was a terrifying display of stealth that left the rooftop completely silent for a long moment.
A minute passed in the freezing air before RJ finally exhaled, her glowing eyes returning to normal. “Helleft the block,” she reported.
Joanna groaned in deep frustration, rubbing her temples to shake off the irritation. She turned her eyes back toward the dark geometry of the city and the thick lines of gasoline linking the Blood Fang strongholds below.
“Let’s get this party started,” Joanna said, a lethal smile returning to her lips.
“Now,” Joanna ordered, her voice cutting through the falling snow. “Send them.”
RJ’s eyes turned vacant for a second as she projected her psychic command deep into the night. “Leave,” she whispered softly.
Leaning over the roof ledge, Joanna watched the first group of explosive-rigged zombies file out into the street, marching with mechanical precision toward the massive pileup of wrecked cars blocking the road. As they began pushing their way through the rusted chassis, a shout echoed from the perimeter.
“Hey, look! It’s zombies!” a guard yelled. “Quick, call out the dogs!”
Flashlights cut through the dark, followed by the sharp flash of a guard opening fire. But just as the first ten zombies forced their way past the barrier of wrecked cars, a heavy steel side door on the nearby building burst open.
Two aberrant zombies erupted into the street with terrifying speed. They moved with unnatural, arachnid agility, leaping onto the brick walls like monstrous spiders before launching themselves directly into the oncoming horde. With a sickening crunch, one of the super zombies tore a rigged infected’s head completely off, spitting it into the snow. It was a horrifying display of raw, predatory violence.
Seeing the two monstrosities out in the open, Joanna didn’t wait a second longer. She pulled the military detonator from her pocket dimension and flipped up the safety switch. With a sharp flick of her thumb, she pressed the button.
