Chapter 283 She Dies
Jonna pulled out a small sedative and injected it cleanly into Fiona’s neck. “Search this house,” she commanded, stepping back as the liquid took effect. “Let’s see if we can find any clues.”

RJ and Joanna stayed behind in the dim basement, keeping their weapons trained on the heavily sedated. mind flayer while RJ maintained her psychic lockdown. Meanwhile, Jake and Julian went upstairs to search the rest of the property.
The home was a sprawling farmhouse with two separate underground bunkers packed with food, solar batteries, and crates of gear. As Jake and Julian navigated the hidden passages, they realized the layout had kept the majority of the wealth protected.
“It looks like the survivors weren’t here for long,” Jake said, shining his flashlight over rows of untouched wooden crates. He turned to Julian with a grin. “They never found seventy percent of your supplies.”
Upstairs, Jake and Julian’s search yielded two separate, distinct clues: a small designer bag belonging to Fiona and a leather-bound notebook hidden beneath Fiona’s pillow in Julian’s master bedroom.
Jake flipped through the pages of the notebook, his eyes widening. “Julian, you need to see this.”
As they read through the neat, cramped handwriting, they discovered first that Fiona had been intensely stalking Julian long before the apocalypse. She had tracked his every move, documenting his schedules, preferences, and private routines. Shockingly, she was even on the exact same flight where Julian had first met Joanna. Taped to the page was a surveillance photo of Joanna leaving the airport terminal, with aggressive, dark question marks aggressively scribbled all around Joanna’s face.
Fiona hadn’t just stopped at stalking. The notes revealed she had systematically collected names of high- level contacts and mapped out critical corporate trade secrets from Julian’s server. Near the back of the book, they found a encrypted file listing specific dates paired with massive cash transactions. Someone had been paying her substantial sums of money to spy on him.
An argument immediately flared up between the two men again in the dusty room.
“See? I told you she’s a viper!” Jake snapped, slamming the notebook onto a wooden crate. “She was selling your secrets before the world ended, she stalked you onto a plane, and she’s been tracking Joanna since day one. And you still want to keep her alive as an asset?”
Julian stared at the photo of Joanna, his face tight with a mix of betrayal and stubborn pride. “This proves she has connections, Jake! If someone was paying her, it means there’s a larger organization out there that knew the collapse was coming. If we kill her, we lose the only link to whoever was pulling her strings!”
“She’s a mind flayer, Julian! She doesn’t need a string-puller anymore,” Jake argued back, his voice rising. “She is the threat!”
One specific financial account stopped Julian completely cold as he stared back down at the notes. A sudden look of sheer, paralyzing shock washed over his face, quickly morphing into deep worry and hurt. He felt completely angry and confused. He had trusted Fiona implicitly. She was his right hand at the office, the person who had helped him close so many multi-million-dollar deals, and now everything he thought he knew about their professional partnership was shattering.
Without a word to Jake, Julian grabbed the notebook and took off running blindly back downstairs to the
basement.

Skidding to a halt when he saw Joanna standing near the sedated girl, Julian froze. A heavy, painful mix of
and anger was written plainly across his face.
Jake hurried down the stairs right behind him, breathless and holding Fiona’s designer bag tightly in his
hand.
Julian’s voice shook as he finally looked up at Joanna, the confident CEO completely gone. “I know who is paying her,” he whispered, gesturing to the notebook. “Joanna, I think she works for Elliot.”
Jake pointed out the specific dates and shared all of the notebook’s details with Joanna, explaining the corporate secrets and stalking tied directly back to a year before Joanna met Julian. Joanna nodded slowly, her look solemn as she processed the depth of the betrayal.
“So now what, Julian?” Joanna asked, her steady voice cutting through the tension.
Julian tensed, his shoulders squaring as a cold, definitive resolve replaced his earlier panic. “She dies,” he replied firmly. “Elliot is despicable, but I trust you. I know we will deal with him soon.” He took a deep breath, avoiding looking back at the sedated girl. “Go upstairs and clean out the secret spaces. Take the supplies.”
Joanna gave a single, understanding nod. She gathered Jake and RJ, and together they walked up the stairs to begin moving the massive cache of food and weapons into her storage space.
As their boots cleared the top step, a sudden, sharp sound echoed up from the dark basement. It was the distinct, violent crackle of electricity zapping through the air. Fiona wasn’t waking up after all. Julian was executing the asset himself.
