Chapter 299 Blackmail Material

Once Joanna

Joanna locked the door to her room, she pulled herself into her pocket space.

Inside her luxury villa, the crew was relaxing, snacking, and a movie played softly in the living room.

“Hey, Boss!” RJ said, waving her over. “How did everything go?”

Joanna sat down and brought everyone up to date on Fletcher’s situation, the frontline squads, and the news about Glacier. Caleb admitted he still had no clear indicator of who the mole was from this distance, but Joanna understood. She quickly told the group they all needed to dress in plain, worn-out outfits and find ways to alter their appearances to blend in with the frontline zombie squads.

Briggs leaned his wide chest over the kitchen counter, flexing his muscles with a grin. “Is there any way to hide my majestic physique, though?”

Julian threw a water bottle straight at his head in annoyance. Joanna rolled her eyes at their bickering, though she couldn’t help but sneak a few quick glances at Briggs’s chest. She was only human, after all.

As if sensing Briggs’s subtle intent, Julian stepped closer and wrapped his arms around Joanna from behind nuzzling her neck gently. The touch was brief, but it made Joanna’s breath hitch instantly. Julian was utterly devastating anytime he wanted to be, his presence overwhelming her senses. Joanna had to take a quiet breath and mentally shake herself, forcing her mind back to the mission so she wouldn’t get completely distracted by him.

“We can bring out basic bats and knives as weapons. Cover up or dye our hair. We leave tomorrow morning,” Joanna instructed.

The team nodded, and everyone went to get ready. Joanna and RJ used a red hair tint and changed into worn-out clothes. Kailee decided to change her blonde hair to black. With heavy layers, it should do the trick in case anyone from Westridge recognized them. Julian, knowing his distinct features meant he had to stay stuck out of sight in the space, only helped dry Joanna’s hair. He grumbled the entire time that she still looked way too beautiful with her new color. Joanna smiled and kissed him to soothe his annoyance.

After that, the crew spent the rest of the day absorbing level 3 zombie cores. Will, who had no power, agreed to cook dinner for the group while they focused on their cores. Everyone thanked Will, remembering he was the one who had successfully attracted the level 3 zombies to their subarctic base during the winter.

Before bed, they all flexed their progress, showing off a powerful level seven power stat. The battle- hardened group even grumbled when Joanna told them they had to dial back their full power for the

undercover mission.

Joanna rolled her eyes at them. “Listen, I think Fletcher is the highest powered user here, and we de don’t want to stand out. Tomorrow, I am taking Briggs, RJ, Kailee, and Will. If I can secure a private the frontline base, Kailee can guard Caleb, and I will let him out to meditate and sniff out the mole.”

Soon, everyone soaked in the healing hot spring before heading to bed. It was the calm before the storm. Will leaned back against the smooth stone, his face melting into utter relaxation. “Boss! Ever since I got to relax in this hot spring, I feel so energized. Like something is actively growing inside me.”

Joanna smiled softly. “I have no proof yet, but I think my storage space, water and hot spring help awaken abilities. If that is true, you may get one very soon.”

Kailee, never missing a single chance for romance, threw herself directly into Will’s arms and hugged him tight against her. “If you get a superpower, you will be absolutely amazing, Will!”

W blushed furiously, looking at Kailee with a completely dazed expression before smiling and nodding back. “I wonder what power I could get.”

Julian scoffed from the edge of the spring, fixing Will with a deadpan stare. “Knowing how your mind works Will, you will probably awaken the ultimate corporate assistant ability. You’ll be able to format/spreadsheets via telepathy and brew espresso hot enough to melt a zombie’s face.”

The entire group burst out laughing, snapping Will out of his dazed trance as his blush turned a deep

crimson.

“Hey, don’t knock a dark-roast superpower,” RJ chimed in, grinning as she floated on her back. “If he cam summon a coffee that instantly cures frostbite, Fletcher would probably trade his remaining toes for a cup. But honestly, given how he managed to accidentally lure an entire zombie horde to our base just by existing, I bet his power is cosmic bad luck. He’ll just whistle and a mutated monster will drop from the sky to accidentally clean our gutters.”

“No way!” Kailee countered defensively, tightening her grip around Will’s arm. She glared playfully at the guys. “He’s going to get something incredibly heroic and romantic. Like a forcefield! He can protect me from the cold, and from Julian’s terrible management style.”

Briggs’ cold mask cracked and he gave a sly smirk from across the water, pointing a finger at Will. “You guys are all wrong! His ultimate superpower is definitely going to be weaponized dancing. He’ll just flap his elbows, cluck like a chicken, and aggressively wave a strobe light to completely shatter the mind control of every high-level monster in the area!”
