Joanna grabbed Kailee’s shoulder and instantly pulled her back into the safety of the storage space, leaving the blood-soaked snow of Eldon behind.
Caleb nodded as they materialized, his tone settling back into a calm, focused rhythm. “Its time to head back. We have a wall to build.”
Joanna sighed, wiping a stray drop of blood from her cheek. “We also have to deal with Fletcher.”
Knowing the intense physical and emotional toll the raid had taken on her people, Joanna let everyone hit the hot spring to recover. They soaked away the grime of the battlefield, the pure, revitalizing water working its magic to soothe their aching muscles and wash away the chilling air of the frozen wasteland. Once the team was thoroughly warmed up and dressed, Joanna focused her spatial energy and teleported everyone back to Glacier’s base.
They arrived in Glacier’s office in the absolute middle of the night. The sudden shift from the tropical warmth of paradise back into the stark reality of the post-apocalypse was jarring. The dark office was pitch-black and freezing, the thin glass windows rattling against a bitter, howling midnight wind. Shadows stretched long across the frost-dusted desks, and the air was so cold that their breath instantly formed thick, pale clouds in front of their faces.
Glacier shivered violently, rubbing his arms as he looked at Joanna with a desperate, pleading expression. “Can I please just sleep in the space? It’s actually warm in there.”
Exasperated, Joanna rolled her eyes, but she wasn’t cruel enough to leave her level 5 ally to freeze on a couch. With a tired wave of her hand, she put everyone right back into her space to sleep for the night.
Once inside the paradise, the group stretched out in the comfortable, climate-controlled air. Briggs gestured toward a corridor leading downstairs, pointing out a specific door to their guest. “You can sleep in Will’s room in the basement,” Briggs said, already half-yawning.
Glacier grumbled under his breath as he headed down the stairs, his usual ruthless demeanor replaced by the petulance of a tired survivor. “I better not get poison sleeping on his sheets.”
Briggs just chuckled, turning in for the night. Slowly, everyone settled down for some much- needed sleep, the quiet serenity of the paradise enveloping the villa. Joanna, however, still felt the lingering restlessness of the raid hum beneath her skin. Before heading upstairs to her own room, she walked quietly over to the dark kitchen to grab a glass of water before bed.
The kitchen was completely still, illuminated only by the soft, ambient glow of the paradise’s starlight filtering through the glass panes. Joanna leaned against the marble counter, the cool glass of water pressed against her palm as she finally let the lingering adrenaline of the night drain from her system.

A faint, localized crackle of static electricity filled the air just a second before Julian stepped into the room. He wore only a loose pair of dark sweatpants, his chest bare and glowing faintly under the dim starlight.
Julian smiled gently, leaning against the counter beside her as the residual chill of the office they had just left began to fade.
“Thought I’d find you down here,” Julian murmured, his voice a low, gravelly purr that vibrated in the quiet kitchen.
Joanna let out a soft breath, turning to face him. She set the glass of water down on the counter, her eyes sweeping over the sharp lines of his torso. Tiny, playful blue sparks danced lazily across his collarbone, mirroring the sudden change in the room’s energy.
“Shouldn’t you be asleep?” Joanna teased softly, a faint smile tugging at her lips.
Julian stepped closer, completely trapping her between his body and the edge of the counter. The heat radiating off him was intoxicating. He reached out, his calloused fingers gently cupping her jawline, tilting her face up as his thumb brushed over her bottom lip.
“Couldn’t sleep without tasting you first,” Julian murmured, his gaze holding hers in the quiet
room.
He leaned down, closing the distance between them with a deep, lingering kiss. The moment his lips pressed against hers, a delicious tremor rippled down Joanna’s spine. A sharp, harmless jolt of static snapped between them, sparking a rush of pure heat that pooled deep in her chest. As his mouth moved against hers with a possessive, hungry intensity, the last bitter remnants of Eldon’s frost melted away entirely. She felt utterly consumed by him, her hands instinctively sliding up his bare, warm chest to anchor herself as she leaned into his weight. Surrounded by his scent and the soothing, rhythmic crackle of his energy, the heavy armor she wore as the Demoness completely dissolved, leaving her feeling exquisitely vulnerable, breathless, and entirely alive in his arms.
They had been together through the long, brutal winter months, growing closer with one another while the world outside froze over. Their relationship had developed naturally, built on shared survival, unspoken trust, and the fierce warmth they generated whenever the darkness grew too heavy.
Now, wrapped in the absolute privacy of the kitchen, that months-long slow burn completely erupted.
Julian’s kiss deepened, turning hungry and urgent as he pulled her flush against his bare chest. Joanna gasped into his mouth, the sudden, overwhelming friction of his skin against hers stealing the remaining air from her lungs. She tangled her fingers into his hair, pulling him closer, desperate to bridge any remaining distance between them. Every press of his lips felt like a lightning strike, sending waves of breathless pleasure racing through her veins.
