She took her time, snacking on the potent tomatoes and drinking the spring water between intervals. By the time one full crate worth of stone was entirely absorbed, her head was perfectly clear. She breathed a sigh of relief-no debilitating headache this time.

Uncut jade was a joke to the human market-cheap, dirty, and priced as rock and raw labor. But her space didn’t care about human aesthetics or the polish of a jeweler’s wheel. It wanted the raw, primordial energy trapped inside the mineral. By buying it raw, she had bypassed the five- fold markup of the luxury market, turning five million dollars into a bounty of energy that would have cost her twenty-five million anywhere else. She was weaponizing herself and skipped the old world’s market economy to build her fortress for the apocalypse.

Over the next few hours, Joanna maintained her deliberate pace, slowing down whenever she felt the dimension needed time to adjust to the massive influx of energy. She felt profound changes occurring within herself, too. Her ability to teleport felt sharper, the mental tether to her pocket dimension tightening and becoming more instantaneous.

After she finally absorbed the very last stone, she glanced at her phone and realized three hours had slipped by. She noticed a text message from Jolie, sent thirty minutes ago, saying she would be back in an hour. Joanna quickly replied: Bring back food. I’m starving.

Before Jolie arrived, Joanna cleaned the dust off her clothes and decided to enter the space to inspect the full scope of the upgrade.

A warm, blinding light washed over her as she crossed the threshold. When it faded, the dimension settled into a deep, resonant calm. Joanna opened her eyes and gasped. Originally, the space had felt like it existed inside a tight, narrow-necked glass bottle-tall but restricted. Now, it felt like it existed inside a massive, infinite bubble, completely rounded out and vastly wider in all directions.

She looked at her villa. Where is the perimeter wall that used to surround my property? It had been there during her last visit.

Puzzled, she walked into her mansion, heading straight down into the security hub in the basement. She activated the main terminal and was amazed at the new, panoramic angles displayed on the monitors. The upgrade had also manifested four brand-new, high-tech security cameras sitting on the counter, ready to be installed once she manifested her villa back into the real world.

Suddenly, her eyes locked onto a strange, newly spawned document pinned to the wall that hadn’t been there before: Security & Weapons Manual.

Her heart rate skyrocketed with excitement as she scanned the pages. The manual detailed defensive systems tied directly into the villa’s core structure and the missing perimeter wall. The wall hadn’t disappeared; it had been upgraded into reinforced steel and outfitted with an

integrated electrical fence. The defensive boundary could now extend for several miles, capable of housing an entire military-grade base inside its barrier. My apocalypse is going to be a lot safer, she thought, a fierce wave of relief washing over her.

Worse yet for any future zombies, or enemies, the manual listed a deployment bay for autonomous drones that could patrol the property line, equipped with GPS-locking heat signatures to track down intruders automatically.

Joanna left the security room and walked out into her fields. Over the last month, she had planted fruit trees, grains, rice, and potatoes, alongside seeds collected from various commercial farms, including cabbages and rare spices. The fields were now heavily ripened, glowing with an unnatural, vibrant health. Everything was ready to harvest.

Where am I going to keep all of this? she wondered.

She focused her consciousness on the empty steel shipping container she had stored in the void a few days ago. To her amazement, she didn’t need to lift a finger. The moment her mind thought harvest rice into crates, the crops instantly reaped themselves, the grains husking and flying through the air to fill the large, empty wooden crates left over from the jade. The potatoes were pulled seamlessly from the earth, stacking themselves neatly inside the shipping container.

The physical labor that had taken her days to complete by hand was now entirely automated by her thoughts. Within minutes, the fields were cleared, and a new rotation of rice and sweet potatoes was already planted in the freshly turned soil.
