Chapter 335 Levi’s Awakened Ability

-Levi cut in as they started to turn away from the window, almost like he’d been holding it back. “One more thing, actually. While you were gone, I awakened an ability.”
Joanna spun back around. “You did? What is it?”
A small, proud grin broke across Levi’s usually stern face. He held out his palm, and one of the metal bars in the grated window gave a soft groan, bending almost imperceptibly toward his hand before he let it settle back into place. “Metal. Still rough with it, but I can feel it now – bend it, move it, strengthen it if I concentrate hard enough.”
Joanna’s face lit up, delight chasing away the last of the tension from the conversation before. “Levi, that’s amazing! With Virginia’s earth ability and now this – we’re going to have quite the construction team.”
“That’s what I said,” Jolie added, laughing.
They made their way back through the tunnel and up into the courtyard, the cold air a sharp contrast to the underground warmth, but the mood had lightened considerably. Jolie fell into step beside Joanna, clearly eager to keep talking now that the heavier topic had passed.
“We’ve been talking about starting a proper school for the kids,” Jolie said. “Right now they’re just getting bits and pieces – whoever has time teaches whoever’s around. But there’s enough of them now that it makes sense to actually organize it. Reading, math, basics.”
“I love that,” Joanna said. “Let’s find a space for it this week.”
“And,” Jolie continued, “I want to build an actual store. Something with shelves, real transactions, not just people trading favors and whispering about who has what. It’d help moving supplies feel less chaotic.”
Joanna smiled. “Funny you mention that I actually have kiosks back in my space. Proper trade stalls, built for exactly that. I’ll bring them out once it warms up a bit more, so we’re not setting up outdoor stalls in the middle of a blizzard.”
“Perfect,” Jolie said, already looking pleased with herself.
Joanna glanced at Levi. “And the reinforcements – for the earthquakes that are supposed to be coming?”
“All done,” Levi confirmed. “Every container’s been braced, tunnel supports doubled up, and the earth users shored up the foundation lines around the perimeter. It’s solid. I had them stress-test a section last week just to be sure – held up fine.”
“Good.” Joanna let out a breath, something in her chest loosening just slightly. “That’s one less thing to worry about.”
They reached the cafeteria, and the moment the door swung open, warmth and noise spilled out to meet them – clattering trays, overlapping conversation, the smell of something rich simmering nearby. Joanna’s eyes swept the room, and her heart warmed at just how many familiar faces filled it. Faces she’d carried through Aurora, through the worst of the wasteland, now sitting together over bowls of soup and bread, laughing, arguing lightly over card games, simply living.
Around the table, Nana, Danielle, Ryan, Willow, Josiah, Greg, Mandy, and Leo sat laughing together, the noise of it warm and easy – someone had clearly just finished telling a story, because Greg was still wiping

a spotted Raven near the far end of the table and made her way over, sliding onto the bench beside he At her feet, Titan the corgi went absolutely wild – stubby tail whipping back and forth so fast his whole rear end wiggled with it, brown eyes wide and adoring as he pawed at her leg.
“Hi, buddy,” Joanna laughed, scooping him up into her lap. He immediately tried to lick her chin, tail still going. “I missed you too.”
Raven grinned at the sight. “He’s been moping around for days. Kept sitting by the door like you were going to walk through it any second.”
