Chapter 336 Titan Get To Meet The Fat Cat

Finished

table pulled her in for a while – everyone wanting a piece of her attention, catching her up on small things that had happened while she was gone: a leaky roof Ryan finally patched, a card game rivalry between Greg and Leo that had apparently escalated into a full tournament bracket, Mandy’s attempt at baking bread with the wrong flour that had turned into a running joke. Joanna laughed along, soaking in the normalcy of it, until one by one people started drifting off to their afternoon tasks, waving their goodbyes.

Raven was the last to linger, practically bouncing where she sat. “Can I meet Mr. Bubbles?”

Joanna smiled. “Sure. But after that I need to check in on Dante.” Her expression softened briefly at his name before she pushed forward. “And once that’s done, I need to call a meeting-you, Jolie, Levi, Virginia

and Noah.”

Raven nodded eagerly, already forgetting the meeting part in favor of the cat part. “Okay, but first Bubbles.”

Joanna gave a small wave of her hand, and with a faint shimmer, Mr. Bubbles popped into existence on the bench beside her, fifty pounds of fluffy tabby materializing mid-yawn.

Hiss. “You pulled me out while I was napping, Boss!” Bubbles grumbled, blinking blearily and immediately looking personally offended by the fluorescent cafeteria lighting.

Then his eyes landed on Titan, still curled smugly in Joanna’s lap, and everything changed. Bubbles’s back arched sky-high, his tail puffed to triple its size, and he looked less like a cat and more like an angry dandelion that had been personally insulted.

“WHAT,” Bubbles hissed, “is that.”

Titan, entirely unbothered, lifted his head and let out one single, unimpressed bark, tail giving a lazy thump against Joanna’s leg.

“That’s rude,” Bubbles snapped, fur still bristling. “I am The Lord of Destruction. You do not bark at The Lord of Destruction.”

Titan barked again, louder this time, clearly not caring in the slightest about titles.

“He says he’s the actual dog of the house,” Raven translated solemnly, biting back a grin, “and he doesn’t recognize your authority.”

Bubbles’s tail lashed. “Excuse me. I could eat him in one bite.”

Titan, sensing the threat despite the language barrier, scrambled upright in Joanna’s lap and let out a full volley of sharp, indignant barks, ears pinned, absolutely ready to defend his territory despite being roughly a third of Bubbles’s size.

“He says try it,” Raven said, now openly laughing.

Bubbles looked genuinely scandalized. “Boss. Boss, are you hearing this disrespect.”

“I’m hearing it,” Joanna said, fighting a losing battle against her own laughter, one hand braced on Titan to keep him from launching himself directly at Bubbles’s face. “Both of you, that’s enough. Nobody’s eating anybody.”

Bubbles sniffed loudly and turned his nose away with as much wounded dignity as a giant puffed-up cat

led manage. “Fine. But I want it on record that the small loud one started it.”

Titan let out one final, triumphant bark, tail wagging like he’d won something.

Joanna handed Titan over to Raven, and the moment the corgi was out of her lap, Bubbles seized the opportunity to jump up in his place, landing with a heavy thump and immediately settling in like he’d been there the whole time. His tail twitched sharply, still radiating annoyance from the earlier confrontation.

He cast one long, lazy glance toward Raven and Titan, then began grooming himself with exaggerated indifference, as if the whole interaction had been beneath him.

Raven cooed anyway, reaching out to scratch under his chin. “You’re very cute, Bubbles!”

Bubbles paused mid-lick and fixed her with a flat, unimpressed stare. “Cute? Try fierce and majestic, little girl.”

Joanna burst out laughing and tapped his massive head lightly. “Don’t be mean to Raven. She can talk to animals, you know.”

“I’m aware,” Bubbles sniffed. “Doesn’t mean her taste is good.”

Joanna shook her head, still smiling, and turned to Raven. “Honestly, I think you need to let Titan kill a few more monsters. The cores can help speed up how fast animals develop – including speech. Bubbles here was feasting on mutated rats in an apartment building when I first found him. I’m pretty sure that’s exactly how he learned to talk.”

Raven’s eyes went wide with delight, looking down at Titan like she was seeing him in a whole new light. . “Did you hear that? You could talk to everyone like Bubbles instead of just me!”

Titan’s ears perked up, tail thumping hard against her arms, already looking thrilled by the prospect even though he clearly did not care about Bubbles.

Bubbles huffed from Joanna’s lap. “Wonderful. Soon there will be two of them following me.”

Joanna got up from the bench and headed toward the animals, Raven falling into step beside her with Titan trotting eagerly at her heels. Bubbles rose from Joanna’s lap with all the unhurried grace of royalty, hopping down and padding along behind them at his own pace, tail held high and swaying like a banner as his eyes swept over the cafeteria, the courtyard, every container and corner they passed surveying it all as though the entire base existed for his personal approval.
