Chapter 347 Come Back Soon Demoness!

Michelle ran her hands over Jolie one more time, the familiar golden glow pulsing steady and even this time, without the earlier stutter or hitch. After a long moment, she straightened, a genuine grin spreading across her face.

“It’s gone,” Michelle said. “Completely cleared. No trace of the toxin left in your system at all.” Shekhook her head slightly, still looking half-amazed. “Honestly, that’s incredible. Whatever you did overnight faster than anything I could’ve managed on my own.”

Joanna nodded, keeping her expression carefully neutral, though a small flicker of quiet satisfaction settled in her chest. The hot spring’s power ran deeper than simple healing — it was, in truth, a natural jibitor, capable of purging things from the body that shouldn’t have been curable this fast at all. It was one of the very few advantages Joanna guarded fiercely, never spoken of beyond absolute necessity, not even in passing.

Her team understood the weight of that silence without needing to be told twice. Not one of them, not even in careless moments, had ever let it slip – not to outsiders, not to each other where it might be overheard not even in the privacy of the mind link where a stray thought could sometimes bleed through. It was simply understood: whatever Joanna’s space could do, stayed inside the walls of her space.

“Good,” Joanna said finally, relief bleeding into her voice despite her composure. “That’s exactly what I

wanted to hear.”

Jolie, sitting on the exam table, flexed her once-injured wrist experimentally, testing it without so much as a wince. “Guess that means I’m cleared for duty.”

“Light duty,” Michelle corrected immediately. “You’re healed, not invincible. Ease back into things.”

Jolie rolled her eyes but nodded, hopping down from the table with far more energy than she’d had the day before.

Joanna allowed herself a small, genuine smile, watching some of the tightness in her own shoulders finally ease. One crisis handled. Now, onto the next.

Joanna gathered her things, preparing to head out. Jolie, already looking steadier on her feet, headed off to find Nana and Virginia to go over the food storage logistics, warehouse tablet tucked under one arm.

“Buttons only,” Joanna called after her, only half joking. “No lifting yet.”

Jolie turned and gave a mock salute, grinning. “Yes, Boss.”

Joanna laughed despite herself, some of the day’s tension finally easing. “I’ll be back in an hour or two, okay?”

Jolie nodded, already walking off toward the reserve stores, and Joanna let out a slow breath before pulling herself into her space, then out again in a series of quick jumps – pop… pop… pop… – the world blinking past in flashes of snow and gray sky, each landing carrying her miles further from the base.

Half an hour later, the last jump dropped her cleanly inside Glacier’s ice palace, straight into his private quarters. The air here carried a permanent chill despite the warmth radiating faintly from somewhere unseen, walls carved smooth and glittering faintly like polished glass.

Glacier looked up from whatever he’d been doing, and something in his shoulders visibly relaxed the moment he spotted her. “Boss. You made it.” A beat. “You sure we can’t come with you?”

Joanna laughed, shaking her head. “You are absolutely needed here, Glacier. Our timetable’s too tight to spare you both right now.”

Glacier let out a long sigh, clearly still hoping she might change her mind, but he didn’t push it fher He knew she was right. “Where’s my team?”

“Downstairs,” Glacier grunted, arms crossing. “The second you said you’d come pick them up, they packed and camped out at the bottom of the stairs like a bunch of kids waiting for a bus. Wouldn’t even he clear the last of the zombies out of the east side of the building. Just sat there arguing about who gets to go back with you.”

Glacier huffed, but continued anyway, voice dropping slightly, almost begrudging. “Fletcher’s actually been more helpful than I expected. His people move fast on the wall construction – good instincts, don’t need everything spelled out twice.” He paused, giving her a pointed look. “Don’t tell him I said that.”

Joanna’s mouth twitched, fighting back a grin. “Your secret’s safe with me.”

“We’re actually ahead of schedule because of it,” Glacier admitted. “So don’t worry about the wall timeline slipping while you’re gone. Just-” he hesitated, arms still crossed, something almost reluctant in the set of his jaw, “-hurry back, once you can. No one clears zombies as clean as you and your team. Feels wrong doing it without you.”
