Right on cue, the clear night sky broke. A sudden, violent downpour slammed into the alleyway, rain hitting the van’s roof in deafening sheets and misting the air into a heavy, opaque fog. Joanna’s grip tightened on her steering wheel. Her heart hammered against her ribs. The dream was playing out, but she was about to derail the tragedy.

Suddenly, a heavy steel service door near the far end of the loading dock was thrown open. A young girl, no older than ten, burst out into the torrential rain, her eyes wide with surprise. Right behind her was the large, heavily muscular man from Joanna’s vision. His face was handsome cold, sharp, and fierce, completely serious and stoic.

“No! Stay away from the dock!” he roared over the storm trying to get the little girl to come back to him. She ignored him and ran into the alley playing in the rain.

He ran over to her looking like he was going to pick her up but in an instant, two men wearing leather jackets materialized from the shadow of a nearby dumpster. They moved with terrifying speed, cutting off the escape route. The larger attacker lunged forward, brutally tearing the little girl from the man’s grip, while the second attacker drew a long, gleaming combat knife, slicing the air to keep the muscular man back.

“Get rid of him!” the man holding the girl sneered, dragging her toward the dark end of the alley. “If he survives, he’ll come after us. Kill him! She’s worth a fortune on the market.”

The knife-wielding attacker stalked toward the defenseless brother, the blade flashing in the dark.

Joanna didn’t wait to hear the ghostly whisper from her dream.

Utilizing the massive spatial upgrade from the raw jade, she anchored her mind to the wet pavement and triggered her teleportation a few hundred feet. The world blurred for a fraction of a millisecond.

She materialized directly between the killer and the muscular brother. The attacker’s eyes went wide with shock at her sudden appearance, but before he could process it, Joanna unleashed her superhuman strength. She threw a devastating straight punch right into his chest. The impact sounded like a car crash; the sheer force sent the attacker flying backward through the air, crashing into a stack of wooden pallets that shattered into splinters upon impact. He didn’t get back up.

The muscular man blinked away the rain, stunned, but his instincts kicked in instantly. He didn’t waste a second questioning how Joanna had appeared. “Raven!” he shouted, turning his fierce gaze toward the second kidnapper who was frantically trying to shove the screaming girl into the back of a parked sedan.

The second kidnapper realized his partner was down. Panic setting in, he dropped the girl, drew a jagged hunting knife from his belt, and braced himself. “Stay back, both of you!”

The muscular man charged like a freight train, slamming his massive frame into the kidnapper. The attacker slashed wildly, but the brother dodged the blade, delivering a brutal, bone-shattering right hook to the man’s ribs. The kidnapper groaned, stumbling back, but managed to keep his footing and lunged with the knife toward the brother’s exposed throat.

Joanna closed the distance in a heartbeat. Moving with fluid agility, she intercepted the attacker’s wrist. Her fingers clamped down on his arm like a hydraulic press. With a casual flex of her superhuman grip, she shattered his wrist bone. The kidnapper let out a blood-curdling shriek as the knife slipped from his useless fingers and clattered onto the wet concrete.

Before the man could collapse from the pain, the muscular brother stepped in, delivering a final, brutal uppercut that lifted the kidnapper off his feet. The man crumpled to the pavement, completely unconscious.

The alley fell silent, save for the heavy rushing of the rain.

The alley fell quiet, save for the heavy rushing of the rain. The little girl, trembling and soaked to the bone, scrambled out from behind the sedan. “Jake!” she cried out.

The muscular man dropped to his knees, his cold, sharp features instantly melting into profound relief as he scooped her into a fiercely tight embrace. “I’ve got you, Raven. I’ve got you. You’re safe.”
