Chapter 41 Available Apartments

Joanna pulled out her encrypted laptop. She fired off a high-priority, secure email to her primary corporate lawyer, instructing him to immediately establish a fresh, untraceable shell account and an offshore trust structure to shield Jake’s inheritance from any digital tracking by the Felton syndicate. She trusted him because he is the same lawyer who helped her deal with her inheritance.

Once the email was sent, she pulled out her phone and dialed her premium real estate broker back in Aurora, Marcus Vance. The line rang twice before a polished, eager voice picked up.

“Joanna! Exceptional to hear from you,” Marcus greeted warmly. “How have you been? Is there something I can do for you regarding your property?”

“Good morning, Marcus. I need a massive favor, and I need it handled with absolute speed and discretion,” Joanna said, leaning back against the desk. “Are there any available apartments in my current building? Specifically, I’m looking for something fully furnished.”

A brief tapping of keys echoed over the line as Marcus pulled up the building’s current inventory. “Let’s see…Actually, you are in luck. The tenant directly above you on the top floor just broke their lease to move overseas. It’s a gorgeous two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit. Fully furnished with high-end designer pieces, custom appliances, completely turn-key.”

“Perfect,” Joanna said without hesitation. “I want it. I’ll take a six month lease entirely in my name. I need the paperwork rushed through immediately so there’s no delay.”

“Consider it done,” Marcus replied, matching her urgent tone. “I can have the digital lease sent to your portal in ten minutes. When do you need the keys?”

“I need them waiting for me today,” Joanna said. “Once the electronic signature clears, take the physical keys and drop them directly into my secure mailbox at the building’s front desk. Don’t leave them with the staff, just drop them in the box.”

“I will personally drive over and slide them into your mailbox by noon,” Marcus promised. “Pleasure doing business with you, Joanna.”

“Thanks, Marcus. Also, we are still meeting next week to see the property listings and I want you to send the locations to me by email so I can set up travel after our meeting.”

Marcus agreed and Joanna hung up the phone, a deep wave of satisfaction settling over her. The pieces were falling into place seamlessly. Jake and Raven would have a secure, fully furnished safehouse right above her own apartment, completely off the syndicate’s grid, and perfectly positioned for the storm that was coming.

Jolie walked out of the bedroom, dusting off her hands with a triumphant smirk. “Alright, boss, all the suitcases are zipped, locked, and standing by the door. And because I am an absolute

Joanna looked up from her phone. “And? How did the bank run go?”

“Smoothly, according to the Jake,” Jolie said, tossing herself onto the foot of the bed. “He said the branch manager looked like he was about to pass out when he requested that much liquidity, but they processed it. Jake and Raven are heading straight to the terminal and will meet us right at the airport gate. He also said to thank the ‘prophet’ for the legal advice-your lawyer must have worked fast and contacted him about the new account information.”

Joanna smiled, stretching her arms. “Good. Then we’re on schedule.”

“Seriously though,” Jolie chuckled, leaning her chin on her hand, “a prophet? You really leaned into that one, didn’t you? Jake speaks of you as if you can see the future with a crystal ball. What’s next on the agenda, oh wise one? Are we predicting the stock market, or should I start charging people twenty bucks a pop to have their palms read in the hotel lobby?”
