Jake reviewed the blueprints on his screen, his finger tracing the layout before he looked up at her. “The structural framing is solid, but if we’re burying these, we need to maximize the interior footprint. If we shift the medical bays to the center bulkhead and use recessed, fold- down bunks instead of fixed frames, we can fit twice the ammunition and give ourselves a wider clearing for emergency medical procedures.”

Joanna nodded approvingly, impressed by his spatial efficiency. “Perfect adjustment. Make the changes with the foreman. I want the fabrication team rolling on the welding first thing tomorrow morning.”

“Consider it done,” Jake said, locking his phone and sliding it into his pocket. “I’ll stay on-site and ensure every weld is military-grade.”

With the logistics locked down and the blueprint strategy finalized, they pulled the heavy security doors closed and left the warehouse, ready to weaponize the remaining three months left on the clock.

The next morning, Joanna met with Marcus Vance at a quiet, high-end cafe on the outskirts of Aurora. He slid a sleek, leather-bound portfolio across the table, his expression a mix of professional pride and curiosity.

“I pulled exactly what you requested, Joanna,” Marcus said, tapping the folder. “Three completely undeveloped farming land lots, positioned strategically in the three towns you mapped out. They are entirely isolated, miles from the nearest towns, and surrounded by dense, heavy-duty perimeter fencing. No neighbors, no traffic, total privacy.”

“Perfect,” Joanna said, reviewing the topographical maps and legal deeds. “This is exactly what I need.”

Leaving the logistics of the container shelters in Jake’s capable hands, Joanna spent the next six days flying out to inspect the properties personally.

The first lot was nestled deep in a valley, hidden by a natural ring of thick pine trees. The second sat on a high, sweeping ridge with miles of clear visibility in every direction. The third was a vast, flat expanse of rich soil bordering a dead-end logging road. Each property was a pristine, blank canvas-and crucially, each had already been secured with sturdy, eight-foot chain-link fencing, making them the perfect hidden way stations to drop her underground container bunkers.

Satisfied with the absolute isolation of the land, Joanna didn’t hesitate. She returned to Marcus and bought all three. She signed the paperwork immediately, wire-transferring the funds through her corporate LLC to close the deals. With the properties officially hers, the route to Evercrest was secure, and her hidden network of safe houses was ready to be built.

To keep their operation entirely off the grid, Joanna avoided renting industrial machinery that could leave a digital trail of GPS logs or delivery receipts. Instead, she spent the next morning scouring local heavy machinery liquidators, quickly securing a rugged, secondhand used bulldozer under a corporate alias.

By that evening, the bulldozer was delivered directly to her primary warehouse. The moment the delivery flatbed pulled away and the garage doors locked shut, Joanna walked up to the heavy steel machine. She closed her eyes, focused her mind, and instantly swept the multi-ton bulldozer into her vast, upgraded pocket dimension. It vanished from the concrete floor with a faint, low hum, settling safely beside her shipping containers.

When she returned to the apartment, she brought up the acquisition to Jake over a tactical map of their route.

“A bulldozer?” Jake said, a confident grin breaking across his sharp features. “You’re in luck. During my service, my engineering unit spent months operating heavy equipment to clear terrain and dig trenches. I can operate that machine with my eyes closed.”

“Good,” Joanna replied, her voice filled with sharp focus. “Because you and I are heading out tomorrow. We have three weeks to prep those three isolated farming lots before the contractors finish welding the container shelters.”

Leaving Jolie and Raven to handle the massive food-prepping operation at the Aurora apartments, Joanna and Jake hit the road the following morning.
