Chapter 73 Let’s go, boss. Show me the farm

Jonna turned to Jolie, her tone shifting to pure logistics. “Go to the other warehouse where the animals are and get them ready for me. I’m going to start unpacking the fencing here to build some pens in my space. Then I can swing by to grab the animals.”

Jolie paused, looking at her nervously, her fingers twisting the edge of her jacket. “I know this is a long shot… but is there any way we can see into your space sometime? Just to know what we’re working with? It’s hard to prep them when we’re flying completely blind.”

Joanna stopped sorting the heavy metal posts. The clanging of steel died down, leaving an heavy silence between them. She wiped her hands on her jeans and quietly explained the Bonded Partnership Protocol- the absolute blood covenant that would allow Jolie inside, granting permanent access but anchoring her soul to Joanna’s lifeforce with 100% absolute loyalty via neural bonding.

“It is not a simple invite, Jolie,” Joanna warned, her voice dropping to a low whisper. “It rewires who you are. I am not sure but I have a feeling it will tie you to me permanently and could possibly hurt you if I die. There is no undoing it.”

Jolie didn’t hesitate. She took a step forward, her gaze unwavering. “Joanna, I swear to you, I will always be there for you. I don’t need a backdoor out of this.”

A familiar, icy wave of worry and doubt washed over Joanna. She wanted to offer it to Jolie, but a deep- seated fear held her back up to this point. She was terrified the team wouldn’t actually want to bind themselves to her forever. After all, her own flesh and blood-Alice and Gwen-had never loved her. Why would anyone else willingly choose a permanent covenant?

“You say that now,” Joanna muttered, looking away. “But forever is a terrifyingly long time to be tied to someone else’s success and burdens.”

Seeing the sudden shadow cross her face, Jolie stepped closer, her expression softening. She reached out, gently touching Joanna’s arm. “Joanna, look at me. You were there for me during my darkest hour. When the rest of the world walked away, you stopped. After everything we’ve been through, how could you not know how loyal I am to you? We’re a family now. The real kind. Not the family you left behind or the family that left me all alone.”

The words cracked Joanna’s defensive walls, striking right at the center of her oldest wounds. She swallowed hard, nodding slowly. Joanna blinked rapidly, feeling tears start forming. She took a breath to get her emotions under control. Reaching into her pocket dimension, she pulled out the dense, gold-stamped parchment agreement. The air in the room grew noticeably colder and somber.

Jolie read the ancient terms carefully, her eyes scanning the glowing runes. Instead of being intimidated, a bright smile returned to her face. She extended her hand, jokingly winking. “Just don’t suck me completely dry, boss. I still need some brain cells to feed the livestock.”

“I make no promises,” Joanna teased weakly, though her heart was pounding.

Joanna pricked Jolie’s finger, fusing a single drop of her friend’s blood with her own upon the page to bind the contract. Instantly, a blinding, neon-white light erupted from the parchment, illuminating the dark warehouse.

Jolie went completely rigid. Her eyes widened as the neural bond activated, safely downloading the entire history of Joanna’s struggles upgrading the space, and the secrets of the pocket dimension directly into her

era tense moment, Jolie gasped, instantly freaking out with sheer excitement. She stumbled back a step, laughing breathlessly.

“Wow… oh my god, Joanna! I know everything about how it fused to you,” Jolie breathed, clutching her head in disbelief. “The system warnings, the resource grinds, the sheer amount of work you did completely

alone… it’s insane!”

“It was a lot of trial and error,” Joanna admitted, watching her closely to make sure the transition was safe.

“A lot? Joanna, it’s already at level ten! That is absolutely incredible!” Jolie cheered, practically bouncing on her heels. “I never had any clue you were practicing in your room all this time with it.”

Joanna felt a rare mixture of pride and embarrassment warming her cheeks. She nodded, but beneath the excitement, a profound shift had occurred. A powerful, unbreakable bond of sisterhood settled deep into her chest, erasing the lingering doubts of her past rejections. For the first time, she felt entirely safe.

“I didn’t want to brag,” Joanna smiled faintly, the heavy tension completely dissolving. “Plus, I needed to make sure you could handle the layout first.”
