Chapter 78 Final hot food run

Jonna stepped-away from the window and turned back to the room, raising a hand to cut through the team’s energized chatter. “Listen up, everyone,” she spoke up, her tone commanding instant, absolute silence.

The team froze, looking toward her.

“The news isn’t telling you the whole truth,” Joanna explained, her eyes hard. “In the beginning, people get infected through bodily fluids like scratching and biting but initial symptoms are flu-like with fever and chills. But after a day or two, those symptoms mutate and an infected person stops listening to reason. They turn into full zombies always hungry for flesh. From this moment, everyone should be on high alert and wear protective clothing at all times because we can’t let ourselves be scratched or bitten. Tomorrow morning, everyone needs to move completely upstairs to the second floor. Tonight is our absolute last chance. Buy up everything you can.”

Jolie stepped forward, a sudden realization hitting her. “Boss, what about those massive hot food orders we placed? The restaurants had them ready this evening, but we held off on picking them up because you were still out of town. We ordered hundreds of portions of those catering trays.”

Joanna nodded approvingly. “Good catch. I’ll go with Jake for the final hot food run and get it secured in the space. What exactly do we have waiting for us?”

Jolie pulled up the order confirmations on her phone, reading out the massive list of freshly prepared dishes:

Over 200 catering trays of steaming hot lasagna, baked ziti, and garlic bread.

150 large containers of slow-roasted pulled pork, beef brisket, and smoked ribs with barbecue sauce.

Hundreds of boxes of crispy fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob.

Massive aluminum trays of chicken teriyaki, fried rice, and vegetable chow mein.

Over 300 wrapped breakfast burritos, loaded with eggs, bacon, and sausage, kept in thermal warmers.

“Perfect,” Joanna said. “That food will stay boiling hot forever once it hits the spatial dimension. I’ll head out with Jake right now. Julian, how much leftover money do we have to spend tonight?”

“I still have a little over a million in cash ready to go,” Julian replied, his voice firmer now.

“Perfect,” Joanna said, barking out orders with military precision. “Julian, work with Allen, take enough cash to buy up a few more off road vehicle parts and as much gas as you can store. Rachel, and Raven take a stack of cash and go get some food that Uncle Nate likes and take him with you. Then hit the hardware store for weapons before it closes.”

Joanna turned her gaze directly to Uncle Nathan, who was still looking a bit dazed from the rapid-fire shift into apocalypse survival mode. “Uncle Nate, what kind of weapons do you handle well?”

The older man blinked, rubbing the back of his neck as he thought it over. “Well… I’ve lived out in the hills my whole life. Other than standard guns, I’m best with chainsaws, heavy shovels, hatchets, and a compound bow and arrows.”

Chapter 78 Final hot food run

Joanna casually waved her hand, a ruthless glint in her eyes. “Make it happen. Get all of it.”

as the team began moving to execute their orders, a shrill, piercing ring cut through the room. Joanna reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. The screen displayed her lawyer’s name. Raising a brow, she slid the screen to answer and brought the phone to her ear.

“Joanna,” Greg’s voice came through the speaker, low, cautious, and filtered through his usual tight-lipped discretion. As her heavily compensated eyes-and-ears on the Harington family, he never called unless something critical had breached his radar. “I’m keeping a low profile downtown, but we have an immediate problem. It’s about the message you sent about Julian going after your Mom and sister. There are serious concerns regarding the Harington finances.”

Joanna stepped slightly away from the team, her eyes narrowing. “What kind of concerns/Greg?”

“Julian worked incredibly fast,” Greg explained, his quiet voice dropping to a tense murmur. “He completely bypassed standard protocol and successfully liquidated and seized almost all of the remaining finances Gwen held across various offshore accounts. He cleared her out.”

“That was the plan,” Joanna muttered. “What went wrong?”

“The speed of the liquidation flagged a massive automated alert,” Greg said, a tremor of genuine worry breaking through his calm facade. “The real concern is that this sudden movement of wealth caused Elliot Vance to take a personal interest in them. His people are already tracking the origin of the transfer, probably trying to get to Julian’s money. Gwen and Alice have already fallen directly into his sphere of influence.”
