Chapter 12 The Crash

Baron’s POV

I had been staring at my phone for too long.

Surveillance reports kept refreshing, encrypted messages stayed unread. No updates from the men watching the Council routes, and still no word from Natalie.

She had snuck out earlier, clearly believing she could solve it all by herself.

How could a wolfless wolf plan on standing alone against Jensen?

My wolf was restless under my skin, unsettled in a way that made my chest tight. He did not understand why she would choose danger when safety was offered, and neither did I.

The door opened suddenly.

One of my subordinates rushed in, sweat darkening his collar, breath uneven from running. Alpha. We just confirmed it; the Alpha and Natalie left together. They’re heading toward the Council station.

I stood up slowly.

My grip tightened around my phone, so this was how she planned to handle it. Going back to the man who had hurt her.

Anger rose fast from within.

Before I could speak, the subordinate continued, his voice strained. Sirshe didn’t go willingly, our people inside the villa said Jensen pinned her against a shelf before they left. She was crying, and he forced her into the car,

Everything in me went cold.

My wolf reacted immediately, a violent surge of rage that slammed through my nerves and bones. It took effort to stay still.

Say that again,” I said, barely containing my anger.

She was forced.

That changed everything.

I set the phone down carefully and reached for the surgical blade on the table beside me. rolling it between my fingers.

Jensen was trying to do damage control: he wanted to silence her. Him taking her to the station clearly meant one thinghe wants her to destroy the recording at the pack station.

I already had the press conference recording stored in three separate locations. Even if he succeeded at the station, the truth would still surface.

But that was no longer the point.

You said they’re heading to the station?I asked

Yes, Alpha.”

I turned slightly, already thinking through the timing. Sharon is still in Central City Hospital, Room 304.

He nodded slowly.

Create a situation there,I said, something loud enough that Jensen cannot ignore it.

Understanding crossed his face.

I flicked the blade across the room. It struck the board cleanly, buried to the hilt.

Prepare the car.

We followed Jensen’s vehicle through his pack; Natalie sat beside him. She was too still, her posture wrong.

My wolf remained tense and aggressive, reacting to the sight of her trapped beside another Alpha.

You shouldn’t have let her leave last night,Raze said, grunting in my head.

As Jensen’s car turned toward the Council station, I gave the signal.

A car slammed straight into them; the impact was brutal.

Through the window, I saw Jensen pull her toward him, shielding her from the worst of it.

Then his phone suddenly rang.

He froze.

A moment later, he stepped out of the car. He did not even look back at Natalie as he left.

He didn’t check her face and didn’t ask if she was hurt.

He flagged a taxi and left.

My wolf surged again, furious. Go get her.

I stepped out into the rain and walked to the passenger side.

The door was crushed inward, metal bent around the frame. The window had shattered completely.

Natalie sat frozen inside, hands locked around her knees.

Natalie,” I said.

Her head lifted slowly.

There was an accident,I said. Come out.

She hesitated.

I opened the door and guided her out; she swayed slightly when her feet touched the pavement.

I steadied her by the arm; she did not pull away.

You’re bleeding,” I said.

She lifted a hand to her head and touched the cut without reacting.

It doesn’t matter.”

It did.

I released her and took a step back.

She folded her arms around herself, creating distance.

Why did you disappear?I asked.

Her eyes flicked up briefly, then away again.

I thanked you.

That was it?

Yes.

I studied her facethe exhaustion, the tension that did not loosen even now.

You vanished.” I said. No message. No explanation.

I didn’t owe you one.”

The words were not cruelthey were factual.

My wolf shifted again, unsettled by the fuality in her tone.

I helped you,” I said quietly.

And I acknowledged that, she replied. That was all it was meant to be.

Something tightened in my chest. You don’t treat people like transactions,” I said.

Her mouth curved faintlynot a smile.

People have always treated me like one.”

Silence fell between us.

Cars passed, and the rain continued.

I was forced into that car,she said suddenly. Not because I’m weak. Because he owns everything I built.

I looked at her.

He threatened my work. My notebooks. Every translation I’ve ever made.”

My wolf howled at that.

Did he touch you?

Her jaw tightened.

Yes,”

That was all she said.

I nodded once.

You don’t belong to him.

She gave a short breath. Neither do I belong to you.
