Chapter 140 You Planned My Life Again
Natalie’s POV
I held his gaze, waiting.
For denial.
For that calm, calculated explanation he always gave when he thought three steps ahead of everyone else.
But Baron didn’t speak immediately.
Instead, he studied me like a man trying to decide how much truth I was ready to handle.
My fingers tightened slightly around the fork in my hand.
There it was again.
That feeling.

Like I was standing in the middle of a path that had already been drawn for me… and I had no way of deciding what I want.
“You’re thinking too much,” he said finally, his voice quieter than I expected.
I let out a soft breath.
“Am I?” I asked. “Or are you just used to thinking for both of us?”
That landed.
I saw it in the slight pause of his hand and in the way his eyes darkened just a fraction.
Good.
He should hear it.
Because I wasn’t that girl anymore.
Not again,
“I don’t want to rely on you for everything, Baron,” I said, my voice steady now. “Not like before. Not like… with him.”
I didn’t say Jensen’s name.
I didn’t need to.
It was already in the room.
“I want something that’s mine,” I continued. “My work… my name… my foundation. Not something people can say was given to me because I’m your mate.”
The words sat between us.

For a moment, Baron didn’t move.

He reached into his coat and pulled out a document.
He placed it gently on the table in front of me.
“I had a feeling you’d say that,” he said.
My brows furrowed.
Slowly, I set my fork down and picked it up.
The paper felt heavier than it should have.
I scanned the first few lines.
Then the next.
And the next.
My breath caught.
“A studio…?” I whispered.
Baron leaned back slightly, watching me.
“You can join my pack as the scribe if you want,” he said casually. “Or… you can build your own agency. Your name… your rules. My pack will partner with you, not own you.”
I looked up at him.
Really looked.
Everything I had struggled to put into words… everything I had been afraid to ask for…
He had already thought of it.
Planned for it.
Prepared it.
My chest tightened, something warm and painful rising all at once.
“You…” I swallowed. “You already did all this?”
His lips curved faintly.
“You think I’d let you walk into another trap?” he murmured.
That broke something in me.
Like something locked away was finally being let out.

I looked back down at the contract, my vision blurring slightly.
A studio.
My studio.
The dream I had buried the moment I chose to stand behind Jensen instead of beside myself.
And now…
It was right here.
Waiting for me.
“Baron…” My voice came out quieter than I intended. “How can you be this good to me?”
He didn’t hesitate.
“I’m not,” he said simply.
His fingers lifted, brushing lightly beneath my eyes, catching the tear before it could fall.
“I just choose to be good to you. Only you.”
My grip tightened on the paper.
This man…
This impossible, infuriating, overwhelming man…
He didn’t cage me.
He built doors and handed me the key.
I didn’t even realize I had stood until his hand wrapped around mine, pulling me gently to my feet.
“I’ve already picked a location,” he added, a hint of something playful slipping into his tone. “Do you want to see it?”
I blinked.
“You already picked a location?”
“Of course.”
I stared at him.
Half amazed.
Half exasperated.
“You planned my life again,” I muttered.
He didn’t even look guilty.

“If I didn’t,” he said lightly, “you’d overthink it for three days and still not decide.”
…annoyingly accurate.
I exhaled, shaking my head, but I didn’t pull my hand away.
“I can’t run a studio alone,” I pointed out.
“I know.”
His answer was immediate.
“Yvonne can help you. She learns fast… and if your guess is right, she’ll need a place to stand too.”
Yvonne.
A small smile tugged at my lips.
“I don’t even know if she likes design.”
“She will,” Baron said, far too confidently. “And if she doesn’t, she’ll still stay. She’s your cousin.”
I huffed softly.
That, unfortunately, was true.
“And your senior friend… Renee,” he added, almost as an afterthought. “She seemed loyal. I can bring her in.”
I froze.
“…You remember Renee?”
He raised a brow.
“I remember everything about you.”
My heart did something inconvenient in my chest.
I looked away quickly.
Because if I didn’t-
I might actually start believing I deserved this.
“Baron,” I said slowly, “how do you always know exactly what I’m thinking?”
His expression shifted.
Something mischievous flickered there.
“What? I do?” he murmured, stepping closer.
Before ! could react, he suddenly dipped slightly, his hand brushing dangerously close to my waist.

I yelped, stumbling back.
“Baron!”
He laughed.
Actually laughed.
And for a moment, the tension dissolved into something light… something easy.
I really really like him.
