Jensen’s POV

I stood by the window, the rain streaking against the glass, while the steady beep of Sharon’s heart monitor battled with the sound of the rain.

“For now, Ms. Sharon’s condition isn’t serious,” the new doctor had said, his voice shaky. “It’s a combination of stress and low blood sugar. She needs absolute quiet.”

“Got it,” I replied shortly.

I didn’t have to wait long.

Hansel entered the room, rushing as if being chased, his face flushed with the kind of news that changed everything.

“Mr. Jensen, there’s news about Natalie… Real news.”

The mention of her name sent a surge of adrenaline through my vein.

My wolf perked up instantly.

“Where is she?” I demanded, stepping away from Sharon’s bed without a second glance at her.

“Reports say her flight lands at two this afternoon at the private terminal.”

“Two this afternoon?” I checked my watch. We had less than two hours. “Let’s go! To the airport! Now!”

I practically ran out of the room, my wolf pushed an image of Natalie stepping off a plane.

Natalie’s POV

Beside me, Sean and Susie were pressed against the window, their small hands splayed against the glass as they pointed at the “cotton candy” clouds.

Yvonne was in the private suite, probably reading the book she wouldn’t shut up about.

I watched them, and a cold knot of anxiety tightened in my chest.

“Will it really be okay bringing the kids along?” I murmured, my voice barely audible over the hum. “The Nightfang Pack is a viper’s nest right now. Jensen is unhinged, and Sharon… Sharon is desperate.”

“What do you want to do?” Baron asked, his gaze never leaving my face.

He was sitting across from me, a tablet in his lap, looking every bit the ruthless Alpha.

He understood my hesitation better than anyone.

“Originally, I wanted to make your identity public,” I said in a low voice, leaning closer so the children wouldn’t hear.

“But your pack has always kept a low profile for a reason. Revealing that card the second we land feels premature. It’s our strongest shield. And with the children… I don’t want to expose them to the media circus or the physical risk yet. They deserve to enter the pack as children, not targets.”

“You mean you want to walk into this alone?” Baron’s eyes darkened, a stormy look settling over his features.

Seeing the brewing argument, I reached out and tugged at his arm, keeping my tone soft and quiet. “Aren’t you going to have your best people protecting me from every rooftop? You’ll be the shadow at my back, Baron.”

“That doesn’t make it absolutely safe, Natalie,” he growled, his jaw tightening. “Jensen doesn’t play by the rules. What if he does something to you?”

“He won’t…. This could draw the real mastermind out,” I tried to convince him.

“Sharon definitely won’t be able to resist trying to kill me the moment she thinks I’m vulnerable. If we use this arrival to pull her and whoever is backing her into the light, it’s the perfect chance to end this.”

I blinked my big eyes at him, throwing him playful, pleading looks over and over, using the one weapon I knew could soften him.

“Natalie, that’s cheating!” Baron shoved my head aside with a frustrated huff, but he was scowling at the floor now instead of at

I knew that look.

“I promise I’ll protect myself,” I whispered, my voice turning serious. “And didn’t you agree before? That my revenge was mine to carry out? I can’t be the Keeper if I’m hiding behind you.”

Baron was momentarily speechless… A wave of disappointment churned in my stomach.

He looked at me, his eyes full of a complex mix of different emotions making me guilty.

“Do you even realize what I’m afraid of?” he asked, his voice a low rasp.

“I do. You’re worried those people might hurt me. But I’m just as afraid they might turn on the children if they see them as my weakness. I’ve never really fulfilled my duties as a mother during those four years I was ‘dead‘ to them; dragging them into this dark storm on day one doesn’t sit right with me. But I also know… you’re capable of protecting them while I handle the front line, aren’t you?”

Baron let out a long, weary sigh.

“So what you’re saying is, for the time being, I can’t claim you publicly. I have to play the silent partner while you take the stage.” “Don’t pout,” I teased, reaching up to brush a stray hair from his forehead. “Later, once the trash is cleared, I’ll make sure you and the kids have the most glorious recognition all packs has ever seen. Baron could only indulge me.

He leaned back, staring at me with this look that’s kinda sexy.

His face shifted instantly as I felt heat pooling at my core.

His eyes glowed gold as he stared at me with much intensity that seemed to make me wetter.

The moment the tires touched the tarmac, I saw a fleet of black vehicles speeding toward the landing strip.

Baron’s face hardened instantly, his aura flaring, forcing me to turn to him. “You ready?” he asked.

I nodded in response before he turned to Yousef – the gamma of the pack.

“If anyone comes near with the slightest threat to the Luna or the children, take them out… no hesitation.”

“Yes, sir!” he barked back.

But as I looked out the window at the approaching group, I felt a strange lack of tension in the air.

“I don’t think they’re here to cause trouble,” I murmured. “They don’t carry any killing intent. It feels… formal.”

“You can sense killing intent now?” Baron asked, surprised.

He reached out and flicked my nose, a small gesture to break his own tension.

The two children, sensing the excitement, burst into giggles beside us.
