I stood in Sharon’s luxury suite, my lab coat feeling like a lead weight on my shoulders.

I had spent years navigating the treacherous politics of the Nightfang Pack, but looking at Sharon now, I realized I had been sharing a den with a rabid animal.

She wasn’t just desperate; she was evil.

The way she sat perched on the edge of the bed, her wide, glassy eyes made a chill crawl down my spine.

“What exactly is this opportunity you’re talking about?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper.

I couldn’t help but take a step back, my hand reaching for the door handle as if I could physically escape the madness she was radiating.

Sharon sneered.

“Johnson, don’t think I don’t know. That Moonmilk is run by your fated–mate, isn’t she? Maya. She’s using your money, the kickbacks you’ve taken from my medical bills, to keep that place afloat.”

I felt the blood drain from my face.

Maya was my secret, my only soft spot in this city of monsters.

If Sharon knew about her, then my leverage was non–existent.

“What about it?” I managed to choke out.

“It’s simple,” Sharon said, her voice filled with hollow delight.

“The Keeper is meeting Jensen there at two. All you need to do is have Maya slip something into Natalie’s coffee. A high–concentrate neurotoxin. Let her die in the middle of their ‘reunion,‘ right in front of Jensen’s eyes. Then the lie of the moon sickness dies with her.”

“Are you out of your mind?” I nearly shouted.

Cold sweat broke out across my forehead, stinging my eyes.

I looked at the vicious woman in front of me, and for the first time, I saw the true face of the Summers‘ legacy.

“Moonmilk is indeed run by Maya. But do you have any idea how messy things will get if a Royal Scribe dies in a public cafe? Especially one protected by neutral–pack laws? And aren’t you the Alpha’s mate? If Jensen gets tied up in a murder investigation by the High Council, do you think he could still hold on to the Nightfang leadership?”

I stepped closer, my voice low and urgent.

“Forget being the Alpha, once there’s a high–profile death involving a Scribe, the Council will strip his rank and dismantle the pack. What exactly are you trying to do? Destroy him along with her?”

My words seemed to act like a bucket of cold water.

Sharon blinked, biting her lip, her fingers clawing at the silk sheets.

“You’re right,” she muttered, her breath hitching. “Right now, I don’t have any heir to the pack. Even though I’m Jensen’s legal mate if he’s arrested for murder, I won’t have any right to the pack.”

A flicker of even darker madness crossed her face.

“Then change it. Not a poison but a sedative. Something fast–acting and untraceable to a basic blood test.”

She stood up, her movements jerky and unnatural.

“Have Maya drug their coffee. Doesn’t Moonmilk have a private lounge upstairs for VIP clients? Once those two end up in bed together, in a drugged stupor, I’ll bring the pack elders and the media in to catch them in the act. By then, what does it matter if Natalie calls herself The Keeper or a Stone? As long as she’s caught red–handed as the woman who seduced a mated Alpha, tell me, how will she show her face in the Nightfang Pack, let alone the other packs? She’ll be a pariah. A disgraced Scribe. No pack will ever trust her ink again.”

The more Sharon spoke, the more her excitement grew.

She was pacing now, her smile growing wider.

She wanted to ruin Natalie’s reputation so thoroughly that life would be worse than death.

When I heard the plan, I remained silent.

My mind was racing, weighing the risks.

If Sharon could destroy herself and Natalie in one move, my Boss would likely find it a convenient way to tie up loose ends.

“Fine,” I said, my voice hollow. “I’ll help you with this. But you should prepare yourself as well. Afterward, once Natalie is disgraced, you’d better come clean to Alpha Jensen about the remission of the moon sickness.”

She turned to me with a look that almost made me stop talking.

“Hiding a terminal illness forever isn’t an option; the Alpha will eventually demand a second opinion from the High Council’s healers. The hospital just got a new experimental drug – you might be able to use that as leverage, claiming it was a miracle cure that saved you.”

Sharon gave a small, jerky nod.

“I know. Just make sure the girl is handled.”

Right there, under her watchful eyes, I pulled out my phone and called Maya.

I gave her the instructions in code – the special blend for the two o’clock reservation, the use of the upstairs lounge.

On the other end of the line, Maya’s voice was hesitant, but she promised to carry out the task.

After this, we’ll pack up and leave the territory.

We’re moving to the human country to start a new life with our kids.

That was when Sharon finally smiled.

“Working with you really is the best, Doctor. But this time, for both our sakes, we cannot afford to fail.”

I gave her a lingering look, said nothing, and turned to leave.

The moment I stepped into the hallway, the mask crumbled.

I hurried to my private office and dialed the number for my personal security team.

“Have the men at the airport reported back yet?” I demanded, my voice shaking. “I need an update on the intercept mission. Why haven’t I received confirmation of her capture?”

There was a long silence on the other end.
