I stood on the manicured lawn of the villa, my chest heaving, watching the red glow of the taillights bleed into the darkness.
Hansel had left.
He had truly, physically thrown me aside and walked away.
Hansel had made his disgust crystal clear from the moment Jensen marked me as his mate.
I know he has always liked Natalie but I never imagined he’d dare lay a hand on me.
I was the Luna!
I turned and stormed into the villa, my vision was blurred with tears of pure rage.
Once I get back on Jensen’s good graces, I’ll make Hansel pay.
I reached the center of the living room, my gaze landing on the ornate coffee table.
Perfect.
I swung my arm to clear it-
My foot caught on the edge of the silk rug.
The world tilted.
I crashed against the coffee table, the sharp edge of the mahogany catching me right in the small of my back.
Pain shot through my lower spine, radiating up into my lungs.
A strangled scream tore out of me as I collapsed onto the floor.
Hearing Hansel’s parting words echoing in my mind on top of the physical pain made me feel like I was about to explode.
“Hansel… you coward… you filthy servant…” I gasped, the words shaking as they left me.
Then louder, sharper, breaking apart into fury, “How dare you speak to me like that?!”
My voice rose, filling the empty villa.

“I’ll have Jensen exile you! Do you hear me? I’ll make sure you’re dragged out of this pack and left to rot in the woods!”
The silence that followed swallowed my words whole.
The only reply was the heavy, final thud of the front door being locked from the outside.
I scrambled up like a madwoman, ignoring the throbbing ache in my back.
I threw myself at the door, pulling the handle with all my strength.
It didn’t budge.
Fuck.
A cold, creeping dread slid into
my
chest.
“No… no, no, no…”
I ran to the floor–to–ceiling windows, looking out into the moonlight.
Bodyguards… Dozens of them.
Stationed at every angle of the villa, spaced with military precision.
Dark uniforms.
Cold expressions.
Not a single one looking in my direction.
These weren’t my family’s guards; these were Jensen’s elite enforcers.
It was obvious.
I wasn’t being protected… I was under house arrest.
“Let me out!” I hammered my fists against the reinforced glass until my knuckles bled. “Do you know who I am? I am your Luna! I am the mistress of this house! Open this door right now!”
Not one of the guards even flinched.
They stood like statues of salt, their eyes fixed on the gate, ignoring my screams as if I were nothing.
My strength gave out.

I collapsed onto the cold marble floor, the silence of the villa wrapping around me.
Everything had happened too fast.

This morning, I was the triumphant Luna, preparing to finally erase Natalie from the pack.
This afternoon, I was a social pariah, a murder suspect, and a woman whose mate couldn’t bear to look at her.
How had it come to this?
I’d schemed against Natalie with such care.
I’d used the black market, I’d used Lucy, I’d even used my own mother’s health as a pawn.
I had planned to trap her in a scandal yet somehow, I was the one suffering instead.
And now… Jensen was thinking of sending me abroad?
If I left the pack, would I ever be able to come back?
In the world of the great packs, “sending someone abroad for recovery” was a death sentence.
It was an exile from which no one ever returned.
No.
I wouldn’t be coming back.
Jensen would finalize the rejection while I was over the ocean.
Worse than that, I wasn’t even sure if I’d survive at all.
My family’s poisoning scandal was already exposed to the inner circle.
Even if Jensen didn’t send me away, I couldn’t go back to my pack.
Those two… my own “parents“… they would get rid of me themselves to save their own hides.
My hands began to shake.
“I won’t accept this,” I whispered.
The words sounded weak..
I clenched my jaw.

“I won’t.”

I hadn’t endured eighteen years of poverty in that wretched village and hadn’t spent five years. playing the role of a dying saint just to end up with nothing but an empty title.
The title of Luna meant nothing if I was locked in a gilded cage while Natalie walked the streets of the Nightfang pack as a Queen.
In a panic, my fingers trembling so hard I almost dropped the device, I pulled out my phone.
This was a private burner, one I had kept hidden even from Jensen.
I dialed a number I had memorized long ago.
The line clicked open.
“Sir,” I whispered, my voice breaking into a sob. “Sir, you have to save me. Everything has gone wrong. Jensen has locked me away… My family knows… you have to help me, otherwise I’m finished. And if I’m finished, I can’t give you what you want.”
I gripped the phone tighter, my eyes wild as I looked at the guards outside. “If you help me get out of this, if you help me destroy Natalie, I’ll do anything. I’ll give you the Nightfang’s secrets. Anything you want.”
The voice on the other end was low, distorted by a scrambler.
“Stay quiet, Sharon,” the voice said. “Wait for the signal. We aren’t done with the Nightfang yet.”
Only then did I feel better.
The phone slid from my hand, clattering onto the marble.
I slumped weakly to the floor, my head resting against the cold base of the coffee table I had just crashed into.
I’m not done yet… and Natalie… I will be the last thing you see before dying again in the fire.
