Chapter 103
Evelyn
When I finally reached ‘Memory Diner,‘ the sight before me made my blood run cold. The front windows were shattered, glass fragments glittering across the sidewalk like deadly diamonds. Tables and chairs lay overturned, some splintered beyond repair. The vintage neon sign that had welcomed customers for decades now hung precariously from a single wire.
“Evelyn! Thank God you’re here,‘ Ryan called out, his voice strained.
“Your father,” Ryan spat out. He showed up with four men, demanding to speak to Lydia about property deeds. When we told him she
wasn’t here, they started wrecking the place. His voice cracked.
My hands trembled with fury as I gently examined the gash on Ryan’s temple. I could feel my wolf stirring beneath my skin, responding to my rage. Taking a deep breath, I forced the primal urge down. This wasn’t the time to lose control.
“Where’s Lydia now?” I asked, my voice tight with controlled fury.
“In the back. Your father and two of his men are still there, demanding she hand over some property documents.” Ryan’s eyes flashed with anger. “He said something about this being Gray family territory and accused us of giving loyalty to a banished white wolf‘ instead of the
rightful pack.”
The words hit me like a physical blow. My father wasn’t just after Lydia’s business–he was targeting her because of me.
“Let me borrow your phone,‘ I said, my voice suddenly cold and steady. My own phone was dead after the frantic ride over.
I dialed Devon’s number from memory, my fingers leaving smudges of blood on the screen. He answered on the second ring.
“Devon Hall.”
“It’s me,” I said, my voice unexpectedly shaky. “Jonathan trashed Lydia’s diner. There are people hurt, and he’s still here with his men…”
“Are you okay?” Devon’s voice instantly sharpened with concern.
“I’m fine, but-”
“Stay calm. I’m sending Jason and security right now. Police are on their way too. His voice became a soothing anchor. ‘Don’t confront him, Evelyn. Your emotions aren’t stable around him, and that’s exactly what he wants.”
The simple fact that Devon understood exactly what I needed without explanation made something in my chest loosen. My wolf, sensing his support even through the phone, settled slightly.
“Thank you,” I whispered, before ending the call.

Chapter 103
I had just finished bandaging Ryan’s head when a crash from the kitchen made me flinch. I stood, squaring my shoulders.
“Stay here,” I told Ryan. “I need to check on Lydia.”
As I approached the kitchen, I could hear my father’s voice–that familiar tone of entitlement and rage that had haunted my childhood.
“This territory belongs to the Gray family! You have no right—”
I pushed through the swinging doors to find Jonathan with his knee bandaged, holding a chair above his head, ready to smash it.
His eyes widened when he saw me, then he put down the chair.
“Well, well. The prodigal daughter appears.” His lips curled into a sneer.
Lydia stood behind the counter, her usually immaculate gray hair disheveled, but her spine straight as steel. Two men flanked my father,
their postures tense and ready for violence.
“Get out,” I said, my voice deadly quiet. “Now.”
Jonathan laughed, a harsh sound that scraped against my nerves. “This isn’t your territory to defend, Evelyn.”
“You mean the property you sold when you were desperate for cash years ago?” I kept my voice even. “The one Lydia spent her life savings to buy back legally, and then gifted to me last month? That property?”
Jonathan’s face contorted with rage. He grabbed the edge of a nearby table and flipped it, sending dishes crashing to the floor. “You
ungrateful little-”
The front door banged open, cutting him off. Two police officers entered, followed closely by Jason. I’d never been so relieved to see
Devon’s right–hand man.
“What’s going on here?‘ one officer demanded, taking in the destruction.
“These people are trespassing and vandalizing my property,” my father declared imperiously,
“Do you have documentation proving ownership?” the second officer asked.
Jonathan’s face reddened. ‘I don’t carry such things with me, but I assure you-”
“I have the deed right here,” Lydia interrupted, pulling a folder from beneath the counter. “This property legally belongs to Evelyn. Mr. Gray sold it years ago and has no claim to it now.”
The officers examined the paperwork while Jonathan fumed.
“You’re working with them, aren’t you?” he accused the officers. “Ryan’s paid you off!”

“Sir, I’m going to have to ask you to leave the premises,” the first officer said firmly. “If you continue to make unfounded accusations-”
“You’re going to defend this… this traitor?” Jonathan’s finger jabbed toward me. “She betrayed her family! She’s nothing but a failed experiment, a dangerous animal that lost control!”
The words struck deep, reopening old wounds. But instead of shrinking back as I once might have, I stepped forward, meeting his gaze
directly.

‘I suggest you leave before I press charges for assault, property damage, and trespassing,” I said, my voice colder than I’d ever heard it.
“You’ve hurt people who’ve done nothing to you.”
