I checked my watch for the fifth time in ten minutes. Evelyn was never late. Not like this, not without a text or call. A knot formed in my stomach as I leaned against my Audi, scanning the university’s entrance.
“Where are you, Evelyn?” I muttered, dialing her number again.
The call went straight to voicemail. Again. That familiar voice asking me to leave a message that I’d already heard four times in the last fifteen minutes.
Something was wrong. My wolf sensed it, pacing restlessly beneath my skin. The animal part of me–the predator–knew when a member of danger. And Evelyn, whether she accepted it or not, was mine. Mine to protect. Mine to cherish. Mine to find.
“Fuck this, I growled, pocketing my phone and sliding into the driver’s seat.
my pack was in
I drove through the campus gates, ignoring the security guard who tried to wave me down. As Alpha of the territory, I didn’t need permission to enter what was essentially my domain. My fingers tightened around the steering wheel as I parked haphazardly in the faculty lot.
The library was my first stop. I knew Evelyn’s schedule by heart–advanced biology followed by two hours i building was nearly empty now, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows through the tall windows.
the library before meeting me. The massive
I inhaled deeply, filtering through the mingled scents of paper, ink, and hundreds of students until I caught it–the faint trace of vanilla and winter snow that was uniquely Evelyn. Her scent was hours old, but she had definitely been here.
‘Devon?”
I turned to find Lily staring at me, concern etched across her face.
“Where’s Evelyn?” I demanded, my voice sharper than intended.
Lily flinched. “I don’t know. We were studying together, but she got a call about an hour ago and told me to go ahead without her. Said she’d meet me later, but she never showed.”
A call? From who?”
‘She didn’t say.” Lily clutched her books tighter. “Is something wrong?”
I didn’t answer. I was already moving through the library, following Evelyn’s fading scent. It led me to a secluded corner where the trace abruptly strengthened–she’d spent time here–but there was something else. Something chemical and sharp that made my nostrils burn.
Shit,” I hissed, recognizing the telltale odor of a sedative–one specifically designed to incapacitate werewolves.
Shortly after, I stood in the university’s security office, towering over the trembling/head of campus security as we reviewed footage from the surveillance
cameras.
“There,” I pointed at the screen. “East hallway of the Science Building. 3:47 PM
The footage showed Evelyn walking down the empty corridor, phone to her ear. She stopped, looked confused, then answered a second call. Moments later, two figures in dark clothing approached from behind. There was a brief struggle before Evelyn slumped forward. As they dragged her away, something silver

glinted in one attacker’s hand.
‘Silver, I growled, feeling my eyes flash gold for a split second. The security chief gasped and stepped back.
I felt my control slipping, the wolf inside me clawing to break free, to hunt, to tear apart those who dared touch what was mine. My vision sharpened, the world taking on a reddish hue as my fangs began to elongate behind my clenched lips.
“This is what happens on your campus?” My voice was barely human. “Hall Enterprises donates over a million dollars annually to this university, and you can’t even ensure basic student safety?”
The door burst open, and Jason rushed in, immediately assessing the situation. He placed a firm hand on my shoulder.
‘Devon,” he said quietly, “we need to focus on finding her.”
I took a deep breath, forcing my wolf to heel. “The pack?”
“Already searching the city,” Jason confirmed. “We have teams covering every district.”
The university’s president burst into the room, his face pale. “Mr. Hall, I’ve just been informed-”
I rounded on him, all pretense of humanity gone from my eyes. “If anything happens to her, I won’t just pull my funding. I’ll make sure every family in Seattle knows exactly how you failed to protect one of your students.”
The man visibly wilted under my gaze.
Back in my car, my phone rang. Edward Luna’s name flashed on the screen.
“Tell me you have something,” I demanded.
“Evelyn’s watch activated the Moonlight emergency protocol,” Edward replied, his British accent clipped with tension. “Aiden is tracking the signal now.”
*She was taken by two men. The footage shows something silver–possibly a weapon.”
Find Samuel, Edward suggested. “He’s been watching her for weeks. He might know something.”
1 ended the call and turned to Jason. “Get the pack to find Samuel Petrescu. Now.”
