Chapter 135

The antiseptic smell of the hospital filled my nostrils as I paced outside the examination room. Every muscle in my body was tense, my wolf snarling beneath my skin, demanding retribution for what had happened to Evelyn. The memory of her collapsing in my arms, her skin frighteningly pale from silver poisoning, made my jaw clench.

A commotion down the hallway caught my attention. Felix was storming toward me with murder in his eyes.

You! Felix shouted, his face contorted with rage. What the fuck happened to her?

Before I could react, Felix lunged forward, grabbing my shirt collar. Every time she’s with you, she ends up hurt!

I could have easily overpowered him, but I remained still, allowing the man to vent his frustration. I understood his concernFelix cared about Evelyn.

It was her mother,I said flatly, my voice dangerously low. Victoria Gray tried to attack her at the clinic.

Felix’s grip loosened slightly, confusion replacing some of his anger. Her mother did this?

Felix stepped back, running a hand through his disheveled hair. Shit.He looked genuinely disturbed. I should have known. That familyHe trailed off, shaking his head.

What do you mean?I pressed.

Felix’s eyes darkened. Evelyn was never accepted by her mother. They treated her like an outsider, an anomaly. He glanced toward the examination room. When her wolf first appearedthat white wolfthey were terrified of her. Called her an abomination.

My wolf bristled at the words. My fist connected with the wall beside me before I could stop myself. The concrete cracked under the impact, leaving deep claw marks where my fingers had partially shifted. I felt my eyes flash gold momentarily.

Easy,Felix warned, glancing around to ensure no humans had witnessed the display. This is still a public hospital.

I took a deep breath, forcing my wolf back down. How is she?I asked, nodding toward the room where Evelyn was being treated.

The silver’s spreading again,Felix explained, leading me toward the hallway. It’s probably because of the full moon tonight. Her wolf is more active, which accelerated her reaction to the silver. I’ve cleaned and rebandaged the wound, but she needs rest.

I nodded grimly, and my phone rang. I need to make a call. I’ll be right back.

I stepped into the hallway, pulling out my phone and dialing Jason.

What’s the situation with Jonathan?I demanded.

The evidence has been submitted to the Northwest Werewolf Council,Jason reported. Based on what we provided, they’re likely to place him under permanent house arrest. The man sold his own daughter to Viperthey won’t let that slide.

Good.My voice was cold. And I want you to freeze all of Audrey’s accounts. She’s not taking a single cent of Gray family assets.

Already done, sir.

I paused, my jaw working. Did you find out why Victoria stormed into our territory this morning?

We think she found out Audrey was selling off shares and planning to leave town, Jason replied. Plus, Jonathan kicked Victoria out of the Gray house. She was furious and seemed desperate. Our sources say she went to see Mr. Gray beforehand.

My eyes narrowed. William?*

Yes. We’re still investigating what they discussed.

My grip tightened on the phone. Make sure Victoria pays for what she did today. She attacked what’s mine on our territory.

Sir, Jason hesitated, that’s Evelyn’s mother

A mother who has never acted like one, I cut him off. I’m simply doing what Evelyn would do herself if she could. I’m sparing her the pain of dealing with

that woman.

Without waiting for Jason’s response, I dialed William Gray’s number. The old man answered on the third ring.

Did you send Victoria to find Evelyn today?I demanded without preamble.

Silence.

The person who least wants Evelyn to succeed is you, isn’t it?I continued, voice cold as ice. You never deserved Isabel. You married her and systematically took everything she built. Now Evelyn is mine, and if you move against her again, I won’t be merciful.

I ended the call without waiting for a response, my breathing heavy with barely contained rage. When I turned around, Felix was watching me with an

unreadable expression.

You care about her,Felix observed. It wasn’t a question.

More than you can imagine,I admitted.

Felix nodded slowly. Good. Because if you hurt her, I’ll find a way to make you payAlpha or not. He turned to walk away, then paused. Take care of her. She’s been through enough.
