Chapter 202
Evelyn
“I understand your concern,‘ I struggled to keep my voice steady, “but I’m learning to control my abilities.”
“Learning?” Sophia laughed lightly, her tone dripping with condescension that made my skin crawl. “Being a Luna isn’t something you learn, dear. It’s a gift, it’s bloodline, it’s lifelong training.” She paused, looking around at the crowd, ‘Perhaps we should have a little test? Right here, right now. Let everyone see what our future Luna is capable of?”
Just as the tension was about to erupt, a horn sounded in the distance.
Devon immediately became alert. “My father.”
Soon, a group of riders appeared. Leading them was an imposing middle–aged man–Richard. Even on horseback, he radiated a powerful Alpha presence.
Richard dismounted and strode toward us. His gaze fell first on Devon, then shifted to me, his expression softening but remaining evaluative.
“Evelyn, you’ve been marked? So you successfully shifted?” he asked, his voice deep yet warm. I felt a flicker of relief mixed with nervous anticipation under his scrutinizing eyes.
I nodded in confirmation.
Richard approached me. “Good, very good. I always believed in you.”
Sophia immediately stepped forward, “Alpha Richard, I was just concerned-”
“Concerned about what?” Richard interrupted her, “Concerned that a woman chosen by the Moon Goddess as my son’s mate isn’t worthy? Is that it?”
The crowd fell silent. Richard continued, ‘In our tradition, the mate bond is sacred. To question the Moon Goddess’s choice is to question our most
fundamental belief.”
He turned to me, “Of course, as our future Luna, you will need to prove yourself capable of bearing this responsibility. But that’s not because you’re unworthy–it’s because it’s our tradition.”
‘I understand,” I said, “I’m willing to undertake any trial necessary.”
Richard nodded, approval flashing in his eyes. “Good. But for now, let Devon get you settled in.”
He turned to the crowd, his voice becoming authoritative: “Disperse. Give our guest some/space.”
As the crowd scattered, I caught a glimpse of frustration in Sophia’s eyes before she too walked away.
As we headed toward the Alpha house, I felt somewhat reassured by Richard’s support, but also acutely aware of the challenges ahead.
‘Don’t worry about Sophia,” Devon whispered in my ear. “She’s just… jealous.”
“She likes you,” I stated matter–of–factly, not a question but a statement. My voice carried an undeniable note of jealousy, and my inner wolf growled in displeasure.

Chapter 202
“Maybe once, Devon admitted, “but that’s all in the past. Now there’s only you.”
I stopped walking and turned to face him, my silver–gray eyes flashing. “Past? Devon, she looks at you like you’re her property. And… my voice trembled slightly, ‘she’s right. She grew up here, knows everything about this pack. And I…”
And you are my mate, Devon cut me off, cupping my face in his hands. “Evelyn, look at me.”
I raised my eyes to meet his deep blue gaze that reflected only my image.
“Sophia may know this pack, but she’ll never know my heart,” he stroked my cheek gently. ‘Only you make my wolf feel complete. Only you make me feel
true love.”
“But she’s so confident, so strong…” my voice grew smaller as insecurity washed over me.
Devon pulled me into his arms, holding me tight. “Listen, my little wolf,” he murmured against my ear, “Sophia is strong, yes, but she lacks the most important thing–my love.”
He kissed my temple lightly, “Do you know why I never marked her? Even when many of the elders thought she was the perfect choice?”
I shook my head, waiting for his answer.
“Because my wolf never responded to her. No matter how perfect she was, how suitable as Luna, deep down I always knew she wasn’t the one. Devon’s voice grew softer, “Until I met you, I never understood what true longing was, what it meant to hear your soul calling out.”
I felt the sincerity in his words, and my wolf gradually calmed.
‘I know this is difficult for you,” Devon continued, “the pack’s doubts, Sophia’s challenges, and your own fear of your wolf nature. But Evelyn, I need you to trust me, to trust our bond.”
Devon loosened his embrace and looked intently into my eyes. “I have a proposition. Tomorrow, we leave this place.”
‘Leave?” I asked, confused.
“I have a private island, away from all politics and pressure, his eyes sparkled with gentle light. “We can stay there for a while. I’ll teach you how to truly tame your wolf, how to live in harmony with her.”
My heart raced, “But the pack… your responsibilities…”
“The pack will understand,” Devon said firmly. “An Alpha’s most important responsibility is ensuring his mate is safe and happy. And when you learn to control your power, when you truly understand your abilities, you’ll return stronger.”
“Evelyn,” Devon’s voice was filled with emotion, “you are my everything. Without you, the Alpha title, the pack status–none of it matters.”
He kissed my lips gently, “On that island, I’ll prove to you that you’re not just my mate, you’re the strongest, most beautiful woman I’ve ever known. I’ll show you what I see–not a girl afraid of her wolf, but a white wolf Luna destined to become legendary.”
Listening to Devon’s words, I felt something ignite deep inside me. Not fear, not insecurity, but hope.
