**Where Falling Leaves Whisper Stories Written In Silence by Ryn Jace Reed**
**Chapter 24: Rise of the Banished She-Wolf**
**Lily**
The blindfold was suddenly removed, and I found myself blinking rapidly, my eyes straining to adjust to the dim, flickering light around me. The air was thick with an unsettling silence, punctuated only by the creaking of the old carousel I was tied to, one of its horses peeling and weathered with age. The ropes binding my wrists felt like a vice, biting into my skin and reminding me of my precarious situation. My heart raced, pounding furiously against my ribs as I struggled to comprehend the reality of my surroundings.
In front of me, Jessica was pacing back and forth, her eyes ablaze with a fervor that sent chills down my spine. She was a far cry from the popular girl I once knew at school; now, she appeared wild and unhinged, almost feral. The transformation was alarming, and I couldn’t help but wonder what had driven her to this point.
“What do you want from me?” I managed to gasp, my voice trembling slightly as I pulled against the ropes. “This is only going to make things worse for you!” The words felt futile, but I needed to assert some semblance of control.
A cold, mirthless laugh escaped Jessica’s lips. “You really don’t get it, do you? That day in volleyball class, it was your friend Evelyn who meddled in things that were none of her business. Tonight, she’s going to pay for it too.” Her tone was laced with venom, and I could see the insanity flickering in her eyes.
“This is ridiculous!” My anger surged, burning away the fear that clung to me. “Just because you got suspended from school? That was your own fault!” I couldn’t believe she was dragging Evelyn into this mess.
Jessica’s grip on my chin tightened painfully, forcing me to meet her gaze. “It’s not just about school, you idiot! That bitch seduced Bryan and ruined everything we had!” Her voice was low and dangerous, and I could feel her rage radiating off her.
I twisted my head away, trying to escape her grasp. “You’re delusional! Evelyn doesn’t care about Bryan. He’s the one who’s obsessed with her!” I wanted to believe my own words, but a part of me was terrified of what she might do.
“Oh?” Jessica’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “Then why is Bryan so infatuated with her? Why would he break up with me for her?” She was relentless, and I could see the gears turning in her mind.
With a swift motion, she pulled out her phone and dialed a number, placing it on speaker. My stomach plummeted when I recognized Evelyn’s voice on the other end.
“If you want to see your little friend again,” Jessica taunted, a cruel smile spreading across her face, “come to the abandoned amusement park. Alone.” She hung up before Evelyn could respond, leaving me in a whirlwind of dread.
Jessica turned toward the shadowy figures lurking nearby, her lips curling into a sinister grin. “When she arrives, teach her a lesson. Nothing fatal—I don’t want prison time.”
Time dragged on as we waited, each second stretching into an eternity. I fought against the ropes binding my wrists, but they were tied too tightly. I could feel the beast within me stirring, desperate to break free, but I knew I couldn’t risk shifting with humans around—it would expose our entire community and everything we held dear.
“Looks like your friend doesn’t care that much about you,” Jessica said mockingly, glancing at her watch as if she were waiting for a show to begin.
“Evelyn isn’t stupid enough to fall for your trap,” I shot back defiantly, though doubt gnawed at my insides. “She probably called the police already.”
Jessica tilted my head back with a roughness that made me wince, her nails digging into my skin. “She won’t dare call the police. I have too much dirt on her.”
I cried out in pain but managed to retort, “You’re lying! Evelyn doesn’t have anything to hide!”
“We’ll see about that,” Jessica whispered, her smile sending icy tendrils of fear crawling up my spine. “Tonight’s going to be very interesting…”

I scaled the rusted fence of the abandoned amusement park, each movement sending jolts of pain through my healing wound. The silver injury inflicted by Jessica’s ring hadn’t completely healed, and I could feel the bandage beneath my jacket growing damp, likely bleeding again. Great, just what I needed.
“My wolf nature is suppressed too deeply,” I muttered under my breath, focusing on sharpening my senses to locate Lily. I could only catch the faintest trace of her scent, like a whisper on the wind.
I moved cautiously between the dilapidated food stands and broken game booths, keeping to the shadows as I made my way toward the heart of the park. My heart raced as I finally spotted her—Lily was tied to a carousel horse, her face marred with scratches, fear evident in her wide eyes.
Suddenly, Lily emerged from her hiding place, brandishing an iron bar and striking the last attacker from behind, giving us a precious chance to escape.
“Eve, come on! We need to get out of here!” she urged, her voice frantic.
We staggered toward the park exit, but as we neared the gate, my legs finally gave out beneath me. The world spun around me, and I felt myself sinking into darkness.
Lily knelt beside me, tears streaming down her face as she grasped my hand tightly. “Eve! Hold on, I already called Uncle Devon. He said an ambulance is on the way! They’ll be here any minute!”
I looked down at my arm, where the silver wound had reopened, blood seeping through the bandages. Lily’s face paled when she saw it, panic flickering in her eyes.
“Eve, your wound… Did you come to rescue me before you fully recovered?” she asked, her voice trembling.
I managed a weak smile, trying to reassure her despite the pain. “It’s nothing… just a little… out of shape…”
In the distance, sirens wailed, and I couldn’t help but think, “Devon’s efficiency is impressive as always…”
Lily held me tightly, her tears falling onto my face. “Don’t close your eyes! Please hang on!”
My consciousness began to fade, her sobs and the approaching sirens blending into a distant hum. “I’m just… so tired…” I whispered, feeling the weight of the world pressing down on me.
The world turned black, the flashing lights of the ambulance the last thing I saw before surrendering to the darkness.
