**Where Falling Leaves Whisper Stories Written In Silence by Ryn Jace Reed**
**Chapter 25**
Devon
Just as I pinpointed Lily’s location, my phone erupted with a frantic ring, shattering the tense silence. The moment I heard her voice, panic surged through me like a jolt of electricity.
“Uncle Devon! You have to get to the abandoned amusement park! Eve saved me, but she collapsed!”
A chill gripped my heart, turning my blood to ice. “I’m on my way. What in the world happened?”
“Jessica kidnapped me… Eve came alone… she fought everyone… her arm is bleeding badly!”
“Stay with her!” I commanded, urgency propelling me toward the door. “Apply pressure to the wound!”
I turned to Jason, who snapped to attention, his demeanor shifting instantly from casual to serious. “Prepare the medical team. Bring the wolf serum.”
Within moments, I was tearing through the streets of Seattle, my grip on the steering wheel so tight my knuckles turned ghostly white. The Alpha within me roared with rage, a primal urge to hunt down and destroy whoever had dared to harm Eve—and Lily.
As I approached the abandoned amusement park, its once-vibrant colors now faded and rusted, the Ferris wheel loomed ahead like a skeletal giant against the darkening sky. I didn’t waste time with the locked gate; I ripped it open, the metal protesting as I surged inside. My Alpha scent swept through the area like a storm, scattering the few remaining humans who lingered, sensing the danger I carried.
Following the faint trail of Lily’s scent, I found them near an old, decaying carousel. The sight before me stole the breath from my lungs.
Evelyn lay on the ground, her skin ashen and lifeless. Blood seeped through the makeshift bandage on her left arm, spreading in a horrifying crimson stain that seemed to mock the darkness surrounding us. Lily knelt beside her, tears streaming down her cheeks as she pressed desperately against the wound, her small hands trembling.
Is she…? The thought hung in the air, unvoiced but heavy with dread.
“She’s alive,” Lily sobbed, her voice breaking. “But she won’t wake up.”
A surge of rage exploded within me, my vision blurring with a golden haze as I knelt beside Evelyn, carefully lifting her frail body into my arms. “Who did this?” My voice emerged as a low, dangerous growl, barely contained.
“Jessica… she kidnapped me to get revenge on Eve.” Lily’s voice trembled, fear evident in her eyes. “Eve came all by herself to save me.”
Cradling Evelyn against my chest, I felt the weak thrum of her pulse, fragile and fading. “She should never have come alone. Damn it!”
My roar echoed through the abandoned park, reverberating off the rusted structures and causing the last flickers of the carousel lights to sputter in response. I had never experienced such fury before—not even when other packs dared to challenge my territory. The urge to shift, to unleash the beast within me, was almost overwhelming.
“I’ll make them pay,” I vowed, my voice barely recognizable, a low growl laced with fury.
Just then, Jason arrived with the medical team, breaking through the haze of my rage. “Get her to the wolf medical center!” I ordered, urgency driving my tone. “Prepare for the highest-level treatment.”
At the medical center, I remained glued to Evelyn’s side, refusing to leave her even when the doctors insisted I wait outside. One look at my face, however, made them reconsider.
“Her wound reopened,” the doctor explained, his brow furrowed with concern. “But there’s something else going on. The silver poisoning should have cleared by now.”
I gripped Evelyn’s hand tightly, willing my Alpha energy to flow into her, hoping to spark some response. “She’s from the Gray family. Pure bloodline. She should respond to wolf healing.”
In a moment of desperation, I bit into my own wrist, allowing my blood to drip onto her wound—the most intimate and powerful healing method among our kind. But instead of absorbing it, her body reacted violently. The skin around the silver wound began to darken, turning an ominous black.
As dawn broke the next morning, sunlight filtered through the blinds, casting a warm glow in the room. Evelyn stirred, and I jolted awake, having dozed off while holding her hand.
When she attempted to pull her hand away, I tightened my grip instinctively. Her silver-gray eyes widened in surprise as she met my gaze.
“You’re finally awake,” I said, relief flooding through me like a tidal wave.
But her first words were not about her own condition. “Lily… is she okay?”
I nodded, my heart lightening. “She’s fine. Just some minor cuts. She’s already gone home.”
Evelyn relaxed slightly, then tried to sit up, but I noticed the way she winced from the effort. I quickly adjusted her pillows, concern etched on my face.
“Do you have any idea how close you came to dying?” I couldn’t keep the anger from my voice, the frustration spilling over. “Fighting with an unhealed silver wound!”
“I couldn’t let Lily get hurt,” she replied, her tone calm yet resolute. “She’s innocent.”
My frustration boiled over, threatening to explode. “You should have called me immediately! You knew your wolf nature was severely suppressed, yet you still risked your life!”
A bitter smile crossed her lips. “I’m used to solving problems alone.”
“But you’re not alone anymore!” The intensity of my words surprised even me, reverberating in the small room. “You’re in Seattle now, in my territory!”
She looked at me then, really looked at me, as if she were seeing something new and profound. The moment stretched between us, heavy with unspoken words and emotions neither of us was ready to confront.
