Rise of the Banished She-Wolf (Evelyn) novel Chapter 26

**Where Falling Leaves Whisper Stories Written In Silence by Ryn Jace Reed**
**Chapter 26**

**Evelyn**

Devon’s words—“You’re in my territory”—echoed in my mind, reverberating through the very core of my being, awakening a part of me that had been buried for far too long. My wolf stirred uneasily beneath the surface, restless and agitated, as if sensing something profound in his presence.

I found myself unable to maintain eye contact, the intensity of his gaze felt like a weight pressing down on my chest. The Alpha energy radiating from him was palpable, causing my dormant wolf to whine softly, pacing anxiously within me. It was a confusing sensation, one that filled me with a mixture of dread and excitement. For three long years, I had felt like a hollow shell, my wolf nature locked away so securely that I had nearly forgotten the thrill of its existence.

But now, with Devon standing so close, I could feel her scratching at the walls of her confinement, yearning for release.

Suddenly, memories surged forth—painful, searing memories that I had tried so hard to suppress. Devon had been there the night of my exile, a silent observer among the council of Alphas who had condemned me to my fate. He hadn’t uttered a single word in my defense, leaving me to face the storm alone.

“Why are you helping me now?” I whispered, my voice barely breaking through the silence, tinged with a mix of hurt and confusion. “Three years ago, you stood by while they drove me away.”

Devon’s expression shifted, tightening as if my words struck a nerve. Before he could respond, the door swung open, and the doctor entered, breaking the tension in the air.

“Good news, Ms. Gray,” he announced, flipping through my medical chart with a practiced ease. “Your old wound has stabilized, and the silver poisoning is under control. You were also suffering from low blood sugar, but that’s improving as well.” He looked up at me, his eyes sparkling with reassurance. “After you finish your statement with the police, you’ll be free to go home tonight. Just remember to rest properly for the next few days.”

A wave of relief washed over me. The thought of spending another night in this sterile hospital room was unbearable.

Just then, the door opened again, and Lily burst in, her face lighting up with joy when she saw me awake. Despite the scratches marring her skin, she radiated an energy that was hard to resist.

“Eve! You’re okay!” she exclaimed, rushing to my bedside and nearly knocking over a chair in her excitement.

“I’m fine,” I assured her, touched by her genuine concern. “How are you?”

“Just a few scratches,” she waved dismissively, brushing off the injuries. “But Mom will freak if she sees them. Can I… can I stay at your place tonight?”

My wolf stirred again at the mere thought of him, responding with an intensity that both thrilled and frightened me. This was dangerous territory; I couldn’t afford to forget what he had allowed to happen to me.

Yet, I couldn’t deny the way my heart raced at the memory of waking up to find him holding my hand, a warmth spreading through me that I had thought lost forever.

**Lily**

The ride to Evelyn’s apartment was enveloped in an unusual silence. Devon seemed lost in his thoughts, his grip on the steering wheel tight enough to turn his knuckles white. I had never seen him so affected by anyone before, and it made my heart ache for both of them.

“Is Eve going to be okay?” I finally broke the silence, my voice barely above a whisper, filled with concern.

Devon’s eyes flicked to me, and for a brief moment, the tension in his shoulders eased. “She’s strong, Lily,” he replied, his voice steady but tinged with an underlying worry. “She’ll be okay.”

I nodded, but doubt lingered in my mind. I wanted to believe him, but the events of the day had shaken me to my core. I could only hope that Evelyn’s strength would carry her through this storm.
