Rise of the Banished She-Wolf (Evelyn) novel Chapter 80

**Where Falling Leaves Whisper Stories Written In Silence by Ryn Jace Reed**
**Chapter 80: Rise of the Banished She-Wolf**

**Evelyn**

The following day dawned with the sterile hum of fluorescent lights buzzing overhead, casting a harsh glow as I navigated my way back to the lab. Each step felt heavy with anticipation, the air thick with the scent of antiseptic and the faint metallic tang of equipment. Dr. Anderson strode ahead of me, his lab coat billowing behind him like a flag in the wind as he swiped his access card at the security door. Behind him trailed Dylan, the new consultant, his gaze sharp and unyielding, as if he were dissecting every moment of our entrance. There was something about him that set my instincts on edge, an unsettling aura that I couldn’t quite articulate.

“Aurora, today you’ll be stationed at number three,” Dr. Anderson instructed, using my code name as if it were a badge of honor. “We need to finalize the binding parameters for the modified proteins.”

I nodded, sliding onto the stool at my workstation, feeling the familiar chill of the lab seep into my bones. Within moments, I was lost in the intricate ballet of DNA sequencing and the meticulous adjustments of silver antibody modifications, my fingers dancing over the keyboard as I immersed myself in the world of science.

“Impressive work, Aurora,” Dylan remarked after observing me for nearly an hour, his voice cutting through my concentration like a knife. “You’re making connections I wouldn’t have noticed for days.”

I glanced up, locking eyes with him through those ostentatious gold-rimmed glasses that seemed to magnify his too-familiar smile. “Thanks, but flattery won’t solve our protein degradation conundrum,” I replied, my tone clipped as I turned back to my screen, focusing on the task at hand.

“You’re quite something,” he said, his smile lingering unnervingly. “Truly… impressive.”

“You already said that,” I shot back, my irritation simmering beneath the surface as I returned my attention to the glowing screen, hoping to drown out his presence.

By midday, frustration began to creep in. I had hit a wall—the complex DNA modifications stubbornly refused to link properly with the silver antibodies. I cycled through six different binding protocols, but the synthetic overlay collapsed under the relentless scrutiny of radiation testing, like a house of cards caught in a storm.

Edward materialized at my elbow, his expression stern. “Time’s up for today’s session, Aurora. Radiation limits.”

“I’m fine,” I muttered, my eyes glued to the screen, unwilling to concede defeat. “I need to finish this sequence.”

“The rules exist for a reason,” Edward insisted, but his words felt distant, muffled by my determination.

Suddenly, Dylan leaned over my shoulder, invading my space. “May I?” he asked, his hand reaching for my keyboard before I could voice my objection.

Before I could protest, his fingers flew across the keys, inputting a sequence of code that established a flawless connection between the silver antibodies and the wolf DNA markers.
