**Chapter 81**

I found myself hesitating, caught in a web of curiosity and caution. “Maybe later,” I finally replied, my voice steadying. “Right now, I’m far more intrigued by how you managed to bind those proteins so precisely.”

For the next few hours, we delved deep into a labyrinth of technical discussions, our minds racing over topics like silver neutralization and the intricate markers of werewolf genetics. Dylan’s insights were nothing short of captivating, each thought he shared sparking a new line of inquiry. His suggestions were brilliant, illuminating pathways I hadn’t considered before. As we navigated the complexities of our work together, I found myself genuinely enjoying this intellectual partnership. It was a rare delight to encounter someone who could match my pace and challenge my ideas.

As the clock inched toward midnight, a sudden, sharp knock shattered our concentration. Edward burst into the room, flanked by two stern-looking security guards, his expression taut with worry.

“Aurora, there you are,” he exclaimed, his voice laced with urgency. “We’ve been searching everywhere for you.”

“What’s wrong?” I asked, rising quickly, a sense of dread creeping into my chest.

“Someone has posted your location online,” Edward explained, his tone grave. “Our base has been compromised. We need to evacuate immediately.”

“What?” My heart raced, the color draining from my face as his words sank in.

“The IP address indicates the leak originated from within the facility—someone very close to us,” Edward continued, his gaze shifting warily toward Dylan. “The guards will ensure Mr. Reynolds remains here until we can confirm he wasn’t involved.”

I turned to Dylan, feeling a tumult of disbelief and betrayal wash over me, triggering a sense of familiarity that gnawed at my mind, but I couldn’t quite grasp.

“The real challenge,” I said, forcing myself to focus, as I sketched a diagram on the whiteboard, “is preventing the silver from activating the defensive mutation response in the wolf DNA.”

Dylan nodded, his brow furrowed in concentration. “What if you created a biomimetic shield? Something that masks the silver’s molecular signature while preserving its binding properties?”

As I considered his idea, a chill ran over me. “Did you do this?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, the weight of the accusation heavy in the air.

“No,” he replied firmly, his eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that sent shivers down my spine. “I would never put you in danger.”

There was an earnestness in his voice, a raw sincerity that tugged at my heart, urging me to trust him. Yet the evidence loomed large and damning.
