**Where Falling Leaves Whisper Stories Written In Silence by Ryn Jace Reed**
**Chapter 87**
“Just as you have,” I replied, my voice unwavering and firm. The tension in the air was palpable, thick with unresolved emotions. “We can either squander precious time bickering, or we can focus on finding her.”
Edward’s jaw clenched tightly, his gaze piercing through me with a mixture of skepticism and concern. There was an underlying current of distrust in his eyes, yet the urgency surrounding Evelyn’s mysterious disappearance loomed larger than any personal grievances we might have had. After what felt like an eternity, he drew in a deep breath, as though he were making a reluctant concession to a greater cause.
“Fine,” he finally conceded, his voice tight with restraint. “But you will follow my lead.”
With that, we descended into the depths of a concealed facility nestled beneath the main complex of the island—the operational heart of the Moonlight Organization. As we stepped inside, the atmosphere shifted dramatically. Monitors adorned the walls, each one flickering with streams of data and real-time satellite imagery, creating a dizzying display of information. A group of operators moved about with frantic energy, their fingers dancing over keyboards, each one absorbed in their own urgent task. The advanced technology here surpassed anything I had ever encountered at Hall Enterprises, and it was both impressive and intimidating.
“Status report,” Edward commanded, his tone leaving no room for hesitation.
One of the technicians, a young woman with furrowed brows, looked up from her screen. “We’re picking up Aurora’s special watch signal, but it’s coming through intermittently,” she explained, her voice laced with urgency. “The signal keeps fading in and out—it could be interference from the sea air currents.”
I stepped closer, my eyes fixated on the display, heart racing as I tried to process the information. “Do we have a general location?” I asked, my mind racing with possibilities.
“Somewhere off the coast, moving northwest,” the technician responded, her voice tinged with frustration. “It’s a large area to search, though.”
Edward turned to me, his expression unreadable but his eyes narrowed with suspicion. “Why are you so invested in Evelyn’s safety? Is it because of her white wolf bloodline?” His question felt like an accusation, an implication that my intentions were anything but noble.
I met his gaze head-on, feeling the heat of his scrutiny. “And who exactly are you in her life? You’ve been by her side this entire time,” I shot back, a defensive edge creeping into my voice.
“I saved her when she was cast out from her pack,” Edward replied coolly, the pride in his voice unmistakable. “I taught her everything she knows about hacking. I was there when she hit rock bottom. In Evelyn’s heart, I matter more than you ever could.”
His words cut deeper than I cared to admit, but I refused to let him see the effect they had on me. “I may not have been part of her past,” I countered, my voice steady despite the turmoil within. “But I will be her future. I’ll protect her with my life.”
