Rise of the Banished She-Wolf (Evelyn) novel Chapter 92

**Where Falling Leaves Whisper Stories Written In Silence by Ryn Jace Reed**
**Chapter 92**

With a flurry of keystrokes, I swiftly thwarted the ongoing intrusion attempts, reinforcing the digital defenses of the system with a meticulous touch. My fingers danced over the keyboard as I deployed one of my signature tracking viruses, a clever little creation of mine designed to trace the source of the breach.

“There,” I declared after ten minutes of concentrated effort, wiping a bead of sweat from my brow. “The breach is sealed, and I’ve fortified your security. The attackers were attempting to siphon off research data related to the silver prevention project.”

Jason’s eyes widened, his mouth slightly agape as if he were struggling to comprehend what had just transpired. “How did you… Who are you?” he stammered, clearly taken aback by my unexpected prowess.

I offered him a tight smile, a hint of amusement playing at the corners of my lips. “Just someone who knows her way around networks,” I replied, pulling my flash drive from the port with a satisfying click. “You’ll need to update these security protocols weekly. And for the sake of your most sensitive research, consider moving it to an air-gapped system—one that’s never connected to the internet.”

Jason nodded slowly, his gaze lingering on me with newfound curiosity. “You’re Aurora from the Moonlight Organization, aren’t you? That explains why Devon pretended to be Dylan with Dr. Anderson.”

A chill ran down my spine at his words. I froze, my heart racing. “What did you just say?”

Realization flickered across Jason’s face as he grasped the gravity of his slip. “I… um… nothing,” he stuttered, his expression shifting from shock to guilt.

“Dylan is Devon?” The pieces began to click into place in my mind, each revelation illuminating a truth I hadn’t fully grasped before. Dylan’s expertise, his high-end equipment, the way he had assisted me with the protein binding—it all made sense now. “That’s why he was at the research facility.”

Instead of feeling deceived by his ruse, a warm surge of relief filled my chest. Devon had been looking out for me all along, just as I had been unknowingly watching over him today. We had been safeguarding one another without even realizing it.

As I glanced at Devon’s sleeping form, a wave of gratitude washed over me. How much had he risked to ensure my safety?

The following morning, I returned to Devon’s room, cradling a container filled with special food prepared by Edward’s team—nutritious sustenance crafted to aid werewolves in recovering from silver exposure.

Devon was awake, propped up slightly in bed. He appeared stronger today, a healthy flush returning to his cheeks.

“I’ve arranged for a private jet to take you back to Seattle tomorrow,” I informed him, settling into the chair beside his bed, my heart fluttering at the sight of him. “The doctors say you’re stable enough to travel, provided we have medical personnel on board.”

Devon nodded, his eyes locked onto mine with an intensity that made me feel both seen and cherished. “Thank you,” he said softly, his voice laced with sincerity.

I scooped some broth and held it to his lips, watching as he took a sip. “How did you find me?” I asked, trying to sound casual, my curiosity piqued about what he would reveal regarding Dylan.

Devon paused, his gaze thoughtful. “I sensed your wolf energy changing. I knew you were in danger.”

We sat in a comfortable silence for a moment, an unspoken connection passing between us, thick with meaning. It was Devon who broke the stillness first.

“Thank you,” he said quietly, sincerity lacing his words. “For saving my life. For helping with the company. You’re my saving grace, in every sense.”

Just then, my phone rang, shattering the moment. It was Aileen.

“Evelyn? The competition finals have been moved to Seattle,” she said breathlessly, her voice tinged with excitement. “We’re supposed to be there next week.”

A frown creased my brow as I glanced at Devon. “That’s… convenient. Seattle is Hall territory.”

After ending the call, I raised an eyebrow at Devon, curiosity piquing. “Did you have something to do with the competition venue change?”

Devon didn’t even attempt to deny it. “Jason acquired a controlling interest in the gaming league. I wasn’t about to let you put yourself in danger again for a competition. On my territory, I can keep you safe.”

I should have felt annoyed at his high-handedness, but instead, a flutter of warmth blossomed within me. Devon Hall, the formidable Alpha, was leveraging his considerable resources to protect me, and somehow, that made me feel cherished.
