Rise of the Banished She-Wolf (Evelyn) novel Chapter 93

### Where Falling Leaves Whisper Stories Written In Silence by Ryn Jace Reed

**Chapter 93**

**Devon**

“Everything I’ve done has been for you,” I murmured, the weight of my words hanging in the air like a fragile promise.

Evelyn paused, her silver-gray eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that made my heart race. “What do you mean?” she asked, her voice laced with curiosity and concern.

I shifted uncomfortably in the hospital bed, the pain from the silver coursing through me like fire. It was a sensation I had never encountered before, but I was determined not to reveal the extent of my suffering to her. “The acquisition of that gaming company in Vancouver—it wasn’t merely a business decision,” I explained, each word carefully chosen. “The competitive gaming industry is undergoing a rapid expansion. Hall Enterprises needed to secure a foothold in that market.”

“So you’re saying that saving my life was just good business?” Evelyn raised an eyebrow, skepticism dancing across her features. Yet, the slight curve of her lips hinted at the amusement she struggled to suppress.

“The timing was… fortunate,” I replied with a weak smile, though my heart ached with the truth of it. “But I would have found you regardless. No matter where you are, my wolf can sense you—our connection transcends explanation.”

Evelyn’s expression shifted, the lightness fading as she regarded me with a newfound seriousness. “About Charles and the kidnapping…”

“We need to deal with him immediately,” I interjected, my Alpha instincts surging to the forefront at the mere thought of the threat still looming. The silver weapons he possessed were a danger I could not ignore.

Evelyn interrupted me, her voice steady. “I’ll let Edward handle it. That man is insane, and he keeps a lot of girls on the boat.” A slight shudder ran through her as she spoke. “I believe Edward can help…”

At the mention of Edward, a surge of possessiveness coursed through me, igniting a fire in my chest. Without a second thought, I pulled her closer, ignoring the sharp stab of pain in my side, and pressed my lips against hers. For a brief moment, she tensed, caught off guard, but then she melted into the kiss, her hands carefully avoiding my injuries. The taste of her, the intoxicating scent of her skin—it was worth every wound I had endured.

Just then, the door swung open, and we broke apart, startled as Eric and Lucas strode into the room. Damn their impeccable timing.

“Jesus Christ, Devon!” Eric growled, his tall frame filling the doorway like a shadow. “You risked your life for a woman? What were you thinking? The pack needs their Alpha alive!”

My eyes narrowed dangerously, a low growl rumbling in my chest. “Watch your tone, Eric.” The wolf within me bristled at his challenge, especially with Evelyn present.

Lucas placed a calming hand on Eric’s shoulder, an attempt to diffuse the tension crackling in the air.

Eric inhaled deeply, visibly attempting to regain his composure. “My apologies, Ms. Gray. But our Alpha’s safety is paramount to the stability of the pack.”

Evelyn nodded stiffly, her expression unreadable. “I understand.” She rose from her chair, moving toward the door, but just as she reached it, Felix Smith, the youngest doctor in Seattle, appeared in the doorway.

“Well, well,” he said with a slight smile, his eyes lighting up at the sight of her. “If it isn’t Eve. It’s been a while.”

“Felix, what do you mean? You know Evelyn?” My voice was cool and measured, a thin veneer of control over my rising irritation.

Felix didn’t respond directly; instead, he stepped closer to Evelyn, placing a hand on her shoulder in a gesture that made my stomach twist. His gaze flitted between me, Eric, and Lucas, a playful smile dancing on his lips. “Quite the gathering of alphas. I’m surprised to see Eve among you.”

“She’s my doctor,” I stated flatly, unwilling to divulge any more information than necessary.

Felix raised an eyebrow, an amused smirk playing at the corners of his mouth. “Is that all? You seemed… close.”

“The wounds must remain confidential,” I warned, my tone sharp. “The other packs cannot know about my current condition.” A wounded Alpha was a vulnerable Alpha, and I had enemies lurking in the shadows who would seize any opportunity to exploit my weakness.

“Of course,” Felix replied smoothly, checking my chart with a nonchalant air. “Patient confidentiality is sacred.”

Eric stepped forward, his voice low and serious. “Evelyn isn’t just Devon’s doctor. She’s his potential mate.”

I shot Eric a warning glare, but the damage was already done. Felix’s expression shifted, surprise flickering across his features. Damn Eric and his loose tongue.

Just then, Jason entered, carrying a bag of herbs. “Sir, Dr. Gray asked me to deliver these.”

I attempted to rise, desperation clawing at my chest. I needed to find Evelyn, to explain everything, but the IV in my arm restricted my movement.

“Owen,” I urged, my voice urgent, “the rumors about Evelyn—three years ago, she was experiencing her first transformation. Loss of control is common during that time. But she never hurt anyone! Those rumors were spread by people jealous of her abilities.”

My brother studied my face carefully, concern etched into his features. “I’m worried about the pack’s stability, Devon. And for your safety.”

“If she truly is the white wolf you claim,” he continued, his tone softening, “then perhaps she should be formally brought under Hall pack protection. It would legitimize her position.”

Olivia laughed softly, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “The girl hasn’t even accepted his courtship yet, Owen.”

I glared at them both, irritation flaring within me. “Alright, that’s enough. You’re just here to aggravate me. Leave.”

After they departed, I yanked the IV from my arm, determination surging through me. I had to find Evelyn.

“Sir, you can’t! Your wounds—” Jason rushed to stop me, his hands gentle but firm.

“I need to find her,” I insisted, my voice rising with urgency. “She might have heard—”

“She was called by Dr. Julian for an emergency consultation on a case,” Jason explained, gently pushing me back into the bed. “You can’t see her for at least another hour.”

I reluctantly settled back, frustration boiling within me. My mind raced with thoughts of Evelyn. I needed to explain, to show her that my feelings were genuine, that I didn’t care about pack politics or her bloodline.

But how could I convince her when so many forces seemed determined to keep us apart?
