284 Chapter 284
284.Chapter 284
“He’s always had my back, even if I didn’t know it. I trust him.”
Her real dad was probably glued to the surveillance feed right now, watching her every move.
Nicole said all that, but inside, she was already putting up walls against her real dad.
Leo let out a cold laugh. “Whatever, that’s up to you. Anyway, I’ve given you fair warning.”
Even saying a few more words wore him out. “I’ll sign the agreement, but you have to give me the medicine first”
Mavis handed him the agreement and a pen. “Alright.”
They couldn’t keep Leo locked up for much longer. Once he signed the agreement, they’d let him go.
But he’d still have to keep taking those pills just to get any sleep, which meant he was still under their thumb.
But Leo didn’t take it. “Give me the antidote first. Let me get a real night’s sleep, then I’ll sign,” he said.
Mavis could tell he didn’t trust them one bit.
She felt a wave of sadness hit her. ‘How did we end up like this?’ she wondered.
She pulled out the antidote the miracle doctor had given her. “Go ahead and take it. We’ve had it ready for you.”
She couldn’t help but feel even more uneasy about that miracle doctor.
That guy was like he could predict everything before it happened-downright unsettling.
And the fact that he turned out to be the Hammond family’s bastard son made her wonder if he’d been scheming behind the scenes all those years ago.
But now that she was this far in, there was no turning back.
She just had to hope he really cared about Nicole, his own flesh and blood.
Leo took the medicine and swallowed it. “It’s working. I’ll sign tomorrow.”
Mavis pressed her lips together and warned, “Just remember, if you don’t keep your word, the miracle doctor can cure you- or make you suffer all over again.”
Leo shot her a look full of disgust, then closed his eyes and tried to rest.
Mavis felt like that look almost made her lose it.
She kept telling herself, ‘Even if he doesn’t love me anymore, even if he hates me, as long as he can’t live without me in the end, that’s enough.’
If she couldn’t win his heart, at least she could keep him tethered to her.
The two of them left the room and headed upstairs to another room.
Julian was sitting there, leisurely sipping his tea.
As soon as they walked in, he said, “I really am the Hammond family’s illegitimate son.
“And yes, I do want revenge on the Hammond family.
